Is peri really this bad?
« on: August 05, 2021, 01:19:50 AM »

Hi
I could really do with some advice and sympathy. I'm awake, woke and hour ago to sweating and pain in my lower stomach. I am just getting over a uti so I will check with the gp tomorrow but I needed to ask if thix could be hormonal too?
I dont know who I am anymore,  anxious, in general pain, tired, periods are a mess. I'm 45. I could cry (and often do) I'm irritable, have headaches, hot and I've had enough.
Blood tests are ok. I don't have any female  family members to discuss it with and really need some support.
Can it really make me so ill?

Awh Mummytron

I hope you got back to sleep?
I feel your pain as I'm also having a rough time. Hopefully someone will come along with advice for you. I live in hope of finding an hrt regime that works for me. Have faith, things will improve.

Hello Mummytron, many sympathies.
I hope you have had some sleep since, too.

I do not yet know what the sweating is like, but I do get pains in my lower stomach. Like period pain but not the same. For me it is linked with the VA around the start of a period. When that keeps me from sleeping soundy, I go down as quietly as possible and make toast with good butter, and a mug of tea and when I have eaten and had the drink, I take ibuprofen with water (A GP said that ibuprofen needs taken after a small amount of food). Then I  go back to bed, put on the headphones and try to listen to something nice or funny on streaming or the radio until I can drift off.
Would you perhaps adapt the idea to yourself, maybe?

I hope your talking with your GP is productive. There are lots of ladies on the forum with every single sort of experience to discuss with you, so you are not alone.

With all best wishes.

How are you today? If things are getting too bad, speak to your Dr about HRT maybe? The night sweats are very normal,I've had them and hot flushes for years now but thankfully they don't bother me quite so much now,the pain could be VA like gynaikeios said,UTI's are also common during meno, there are many symptoms, joint pain, allergies, nausea, the list sadly goes on.Let us know how it goes and DO speak to your Dr

Also when you say VA, does that pain happen low in the stomach, sort of where the top of your public hair would start?
I really appreciate all your support. I'm a wreck this morning.

For me it does. Below the belly button and yes, where period cramps happen. It is because of reduction in oestrogen in peri and how that restricts normal secretions.
My GP did check that there was nothing else wrong - nothing that an exam of the abdomen would show, and then we talked about effects of VA once she had ruled out other things such as UTI as well.

Yes for me too, exactly where you are describing like just above the pubic bone, get to the Dr and discuss some vagifem etc UTIs can become bothersome too,you need to get some advice as where to go with this before it gets out of hand,I'm personally not on HRT but a lot of ladies on here couldn't cope without it

Thanks, I'm getting over the mother of all UTIs and my god I've been ill. Can vagifem  help with those pains then? Is that for prescription?

Aw, you are having a difficult time, sorry for you. So the extra pain is on top of what  you  had with the UTI?

Vagifem is a prescription medicine containing low dose of oestrogen. I think it is applied as a pessary in the vagina as detailed by a GP. There are ladies in the forum who use that form. I am prescribed a low oestrogen cream which does the same thing more or less.
The low dose is applied where it is needed and allows the vagina and around the bladder and  urethra to regain their moisture, elasticity and suppleness, and that reduces pain and burning feelings from the dryness that is caused by oestrogen level dropping during perimenopause.

I think VA makes it easier to come down with a UTI, so maybe for you the two situations are linked? It is worth talking about that with your GP.
Maybe also ask about other pains you have?

I hope you sleep better tonight, and have a successful talk with your GP, who already knows you have had treatment for UTI.

I hand you a big cup of virtual warm, comforting drink for night-time ☕

Vagifem is a local oestrogen treatment and can help prevent UTIs, because the whole urogenital area is oestrogen dependent. There are oestrogen receptors in the trigone area (lower part) of the bladder, and lack of oestrogen makes the bladder lining less robust and more prone to infection. Vagifem is available on prescription. Lots of info about it on the forum, have a browse. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm suffering the same symtpoms as you. I don't even look forward going to bed. Not to mention breathing issues and sleep apnea (I think) at night.

Patches have given me flushes which I never had before, so now at a loss and need to change the hrt.

Everyday, there is something, some jiggling pain to bother me. Fed up, don't know who I am anymore and tired of complaining

Complain as much as you like my lovely,we've ALL done it on here,I believe some ladies DO have to tweak away at their HRT,never suffer in silence, keep going back to your GP,threaten them with ........the women on MM told me to come see you.
Mummytron, like the other ladies said, vagifem is good,if the inside walls of vagina are becoming thin and or dry,UTIs will pounce,so get yourself off to the Dr and please let us know how you get on

Thank you so much everyone, you have no idea how much it means to have a virtual support group!
Yes, I have had a bad uti and then have a heavy period just as I was starting to pick up from the uti.  :-\
The hot flushes are the worst symptom for me now but they seem to be more flushing then not!
I will try to talk to the GP, sadly we never speak to the same one so can be difficult to get a conversation going.
Thanks again.

Sorry all, I'm back again.
I'm struggling. I need someone to describe their hot flushes to me please. I've just become incredibly hot, felt weak and shaky, absolutely awful actually. I've convinced myself it's something sinister because I cant believe flushes can make you so unwell. I seem to be getting them a lot too, many times an hour.
