Femseven Conti problems
« on: July 27, 2021, 03:11:52 PM »

Me again!  I was on Oestrogel and Utrogestan for two months and although the gel was great and very easy to use, I didnt get on with the Utrogestan capsules neither orally nor vaginally.  Taken by mouth I suffered from bad acid reflux and when inserted I became very sore, very quickly so unfortunately had to stop.  I recently spoke to my Consultant and she agreed I could try Femseven Conti patches again if I could get hold of them (fortunately I could!) and so I’ve now been using them for four weeks and even though I’ve had no real problems, I have found that my joint aches and pains are slowly returning along with vaginal dryness and itching.  Previously I had to stop Evorel Conti as It was found that I wasn’t absorbing the patches and it looks as if it’s happening again with Femseven even though they are sticking well.  Please can someone explain why this would happen?

Even though I have no idea where I go from here, it is proof that I really do need Hrt and without it my mobility would be very much affected due to pain, stiffness and other very unpleasant symptoms.

Hi jasmine5,

Exactly the same as you! Had to stop utrogestan/Oestrogel as I could not get on with the capsules.

Went onto Femseven Conti beginning May and literally two weeks ago stopped them! Although all seemed initially great, It started making my VA worse I think and my joint pains returned. My two main symptoms.  Since I stopped my VA has improved again, so it must have had something to do with it! and I am back on the Naproxen for my joints.

That’s interesting to see that you’re VA has improved since stopping Femseven, so do you think that the Femseven is causing the problems with your VA and joints or is it that you’re not absorbing the patch?  I always thought it might be lack of hormones rather than too much!

I’m too nervous to stop the patches as I’ve tried in the past and I’ve found that I quickly go downhill, both physically and mentally and unfortunately I’m unable to take anti-inflammatories due to stomach issues.

There aren’t many Hrt preps that I haven’t tried now so I don’t know where to go from here.  My Gp isn’t very knowledgeable either and I can’t get an appointment with the Menopause clinic until October.

Hi Jasmine5,

I think I was absorbing the patch fine as I felt so much better to begin with.  I started bleeding at week 6 then my VA flared really badly despite also continuing with local Oestrogen. I tried to battle on upping the local Oestrogen but it just kept getting worse.  I also felt my joint pain had started to return.  Life becomes unbearable with VA for me as it’s really uncomfortable.  I thought it could be the patch and was proved right when I took it off and things improved dramatically again.

It does mention on the leaflet to discuss with doctor if vaginal dryness continues.  Something just wasn’t quite right for me.  I think I give up now trying HRT and will just stay with local Oestrogen.

Good luck x
