Logical oestrogen - thrush!
« on: July 19, 2021, 07:29:46 AM »

After a few weeks of hell - vaginal burning, heavy pelvis, I have now discovered it was a bad case of thrush caused by the loading dose of (internal) Ovestin. Frustrating, as the original urinary symptoms had started to ease. Does this now mean that Ovestin will cause thrush every time I use it? I had similar issues with Vagifem. Or does this improve over time? Should I consider swapping to something like Intrarosa or Estring?

Sorry that this tread got missed.  :-\  :'(

Sometimes we have to gently insert the treatment because the vaginal skin is so thin and may tear = thrush like symptoms.  Have you had a swab taken recently?

Perhaps 🤔 try the Estring?  It can be Trial and Error which is so tiring.

In the meantime I’ve had another swab down and it came back as ‘normal flora’ and showing occasional pus cells. It’s so frustrating as I’m having the most awful vaginal burning (something I’ve never had before - it’s usually urinary symptoms that o have). I’m at my wits end - do I ask for another swab? A smear test?

You could join the Vaginal Atrophy Facebook support group, which is private, to obtain advice there. The problem of thrush-like symptoms with local oestrogen is not uncommon among members of the FB group and the moderators are excellent with advice.

Using LIVE yoghurt can ease symptoms - applied gently into the vagina as high up as is comfy.  It soothes but can be messy ;-).  Thrush thrives on sugars so using LIVE yoghurt as a food will cleanse the digestive system throughout.  It won't do any harm and may well ease symptoms.  It lives in the back passage ;-).

Agree with Joaniepat - hop over there and join in ;-)
