Contraceptive Pill and Perimenopause
« on: June 29, 2021, 06:50:22 PM »

Hi all I'm new to this forum but have a query.

I'm 38 and take Marvelon combined pill, details below:

This low-dose contraceptive contains two types of female sex hormones, oestrogen and progestogen.

My question is, is it still possible for me to experience perimenopause symptoms at my age while on the pill? The main symptoms would be anxiety, dryness, urethral caruncle issues, fatigue and Vertigo and in the last 6 months my period has been very dark and thick (TMI info sorry) I've had tests but obviously my hormones appear OK.

Would my best option be to come off the pill, has anyone else displayed symptoms while on the pill? Many thanks

Hi,

Yes, I had symptoms breaking through but I didn’t consider that it could be hormones because I was on the pill.  I was taken off it at 51 felt ok for a few months then the insomnia, flushes, palps etc hit me like a ton of bricks.  Tried various HRT’s and also went back on the combined pill but it made no difference to my symptoms at all so stopped again.

Could you try hrt?
