Advice appreciated please !
« on: June 23, 2021, 09:30:35 AM »

Hi ladies.  I would appreciate any advice you could give me please. I’m getting a lot of digestive discomfort.  I’m getting all the symptoms of what I believe is reflux ie stomach pain, burping, phlegm in my throat, sore throat etc etc.  Sometimes I have what I would describe as a bubbly feeling in my stomach around the belly button area and then other times it’s more discomfort between my belly button area and my boobs, almost like something’s lodged there.  I’ve seen my GP and she prescribed Lansoprazole which I’ve been taking for a couple of months but doesn’t seem to have made the slightest bit of difference. I did think these were side effects of HRT but I’m not so sure now.

I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same and managed to find something that controls these symptoms ?

Thank you ladies.

Hi Rosie, I think you'll find there are many MANY women who have this,I used to have silent reflux, which would make me nauseous too,was given omeprazole, which is pretty much what you've been given, only I think it helps more with acidity than lansoorazole. Also with meno, comes intolerances to certain foods, that you may not have had before,is there any time of day this happens or is it constant?

Hi Rosie. I had similar symptoms and after endoscopy I was diagnosed with hiatus hernia. This was sorted out with omeprazole. As you've already been on a ppi for a couple of months then I think you should really be referred for endoscopy just to see what's going on and then you can take it from there. When do you take the lansoprazole?

This sort of discomfort can really impact on your life.

I’ve just started getting those symptoms, yes. Also a bubbling in my throat sometimes.  A pharmacist advised to have Gaviscon after each meal and before bed for two weeks and if no improvement to speak to GP.

It seems to be helping.

Thanks for your replies ladies.

Jaypo - I have been thinking I could have become intolerant to some foods.  I need to go back to basics really I suppose and then introduce foods gradually to see if I can pinpoint something.  The discomfort is pretty much constant but I seem to notice the bubbly stomach when I go to bed but that might be because I’m laying down.

Taz2 - I take the Lansoprazole on an empty stomach when I get up and leave half hour’ish before I have breakfast. Is that what you do ?

Thanks again for all your replies xx

Forgot to say that sometimes my poo is pongy (sorry for that info 🤭). I have just done my 2 yearly bowel cancer test and that came back clear so that’s one good thing 😊 x

Yes that's how I take the omeprazole.

Hi Rosie63.  Have you been checked for H. Pyloria? (spelling). This is quite common and causes all sorts of digestive issues.  I am on rabeprazole and have been for several years but was immediately checked for H.P. to rule out this bacteria.  If you have H.P., PPI'S will not make much difference.  You need a course of antibiotics to get rid of this bacterium.  I should also mention that H.pyloria can lead to stomach cancer.  Test is a simple blood test.  Good luck and perhaps Google H. Pyloria to see if your symptoms match.  My guess is probably yes.
