Advice regarding Oestragel
« on: June 18, 2021, 06:37:01 PM »

Hello everyone.  :)
New to menopause matters and looking for advice please. And info on anyone else’s experiences.

Previously on Evorel Conti but after libido completely vanishing and 8 months of bleeding every 2 weeks (scans and biopsy done with no problems found) Doctor has now switched me to Oestragel 2 pumps and 100mg of Utrogestan.
First 3 weeks brilliant apart from bit of bloating and breast tenderness but I began to feel like my old self again and the bleeding stopped. Hooray!!
Now it’s started again and going into the 2nd week of bleeding.
Past few days I’ve lowered the Oestragel to 1 pump but this hasn’t changed anything other than reducing the breast tenderness. Still bleeding!
No good asking my Dr coz she’s really not clued up on HRT.
So do I go back to 2 pumps and hope bleeding stops soon or continue with a lower 1 pump dose or should I try a higher dose of 3 pumps? Or should I try increasing the utrogestan to 2 tablets a night.
So fed up of this past year with all the bleeding problems.   :'(

Hi welcome to the forum.

Can you give some more details about whereabouts you are in menopause, as this will help any advice that we can give you ?

We’re you 12 months period free before starting on hrt ? X

Hi
I was on sequential HRT with induced bleed getting lighter and lighter.
At 53 I was moved onto continuous. Dr made a mistake and put me on evorel 50 for a few months and I had no bleed and felt great then when DR noted that I should be on a combined not estrogen only patch I was moved onto conti and that’s when bleeding problems started.

It could be that your body is not quite ready for continuous hrt or it could be that you’ve got to give it time. When you start any new hrt you can get breakthrough bleeding for up to 6 months. It is important that you choose a dosage of Oestrogel and stick to it. If you keep changing the amount then that will mess you up and could cause bleeding. X

Thankyou.
I have little to no breast tenderness on 1 pump and no bloating so I’m thinking maybe 2 was too high?  so would you suggest keep to the 1 and hope the bleeding stops soon.
Thanks for your help.

I think you may still be peri so need a sequi regime not conti. You can use what you have, just take 200mg utro for 12 days, day 15-26 and you should bleed a couple of days after that.

Just to add you should use the lowest dose of oestrogen that controls your symptoms.

The equivalent to Evorel Conti for oestrogen would be 2 pumps of Oestrogel. But as it is a transdermal route you could need less. As sheila99 says, you need as much Oestrogel as you need to control your symptoms. You could carry on with a continuous regime and see what happens or switch to a Sequi regime.

Hi
Thanks all
I’m pretty sure I’m not peri and think the Dr chose the right time to put me on continuous as periods where getting lighter and lighter only being induced by progesterone part of sequential.
The mistake was putting me on oestrogen only hrt. This caused my lining to become thicker and when corrected and moved onto evorel conti the bleeding problems started. My last scan in January showed the lining was now nice and thin and a month or so ago I moved onto what I’m on now. The bleeding stopped within few days and felt better than I had for ages.
Unfortunately the bleeding started again 3 weeks or so later. And has continued. I assumed I was getting to must oestragel so lowered to 1 pump. But been on this for almost a week now and if anything bleeding getting heavier.
I will keep going with the 1 pump and hope the bleeding stops soon.

Hi
I’m now bleeding very heavily and even though doubling up I darent leave the house.
So this morning have had to take 5mg norethisterone to stop it.
Where to I go from here. I’ve only got  4 norethisterone left and know as soon as I stop I’m gonna start bleeding again.
So do I go onto 200 of the progesterone for 12 days when norethisterone finished.?  Do I Carry on with the 1 pump and then will I bleed again after the 12 days.
Sorry but feeling very low and tired today.
Started back on the iron tablets.
