So that didn't work!!
« on: June 12, 2021, 02:35:31 PM »

Hi, at the end of May I thought I'd try Utrogestan 100mg vaginally every other day to see if it made any difference to my stomach bloating.
I also increased my Estradot 50 by adding another half a patch for the last 2 weeks which seems to have got rid of the hot sweats finally. ( I'd had a month break after being on conti HRT for almost 2 years to see what happened but hot flushes came back straight away so I thought sod that, am going back on it...)

But it irritated me using it vaginally and made me twinge, so stopped that way and went back to orally every night last week.

So am just having a bit of a "show" (bit of brown stuff.. sorry if TMI) for the first time ever since periods stopped in 2009 ....so I can only assume it was messing about with the Utrogestan and hopefully it will settle down. Lessons learned :'( If it ain't broke don't fix it...definitely don't want any monthly bleeding at the age of 64!

I had Indivina for 1 year in 2011 at 2 years post meno due to horrendous hot flushes, but my GP made me come off it due to HRT scares at the time, but I had been fantastic on that and felt great. ( why did I not persist!!) SO, it's made me wonder if I should try Provera, as that's the same progesterone as in Indivina?? Does it have less side effects than Utrogestan?

Anyone feel better on Provera please jump in here and advise!
Thanks xx

Hey Julia (and everybody)!

I started on Utrogestan and really wanted it to work for me. I took it orally, which was super-calming, but I had constant acid reflux that even PPIs didn't block.

So tried vaginally every other night - I have severe VA, so this made it worse, and even caused some stress incontinence which I'd never had before or since stopping. Next attempt was rectally. I really didn't realise you could get constipated that badly, jeez.

So now I'm on Provera and I find it pretty neutral in terms of effects. I'd rather be able to take the Utrogestan but it just doesn't agree with me. I'm quite happy on the Provera, and don't experience any real side-effects to speak of.

Would say it's worth a go, especially if it's the same progestogen as Indivina, and you're fine on that.  :)

Thank you ladies, :) that's very reassuring to hear!

Now just have to go through the rigmarole of getting Gp to agree, he usually won't change anything without the say so of the Meno clinic which I'm under but they are not doing appointments at the moment anyway.

Plus, I've just had a rubbish 10 days. Have been on the low residue diet with Sennakot every night ready for my colonoscopy which was last Thursday. I'm wondering too if all that Moviprep and dashing to the loo stopped the Utrogestan being absorbed properly and so contributed to the bleed?

I'm feeling bloated and completely rubbish not to mention worried after it all - and waiting for further testing, as they have found narrowing of the bowel and polyps and are checking for the C word. Very worrying but hoping for the best. xx

As you know you can tolerate the prog in provera changing to it looks like a good option. It does seem to suit some people who can't tolerate utro. Do you have treatment for VA? I (and many others) are fine using it vaginally so just wondered if va was an issue. Taking it vaginally (if only you could!) should prevent the bloating. I'm sure you know all bleeding post meno should be investigated so unless you're sure it's down to changing utro it might be wise to see you gp just to rule anything else out. Your theory may well be correct though. Good luck with the tests.
