Breast problems
« on: May 19, 2021, 04:11:40 PM »

Hi all

Today I went for my annual health screening that my employer funds.  It was supposed to include a mammogram (last one 2 years ago).  However, when the doctor examined me she said she didnt want me to go for the mammogram, but instead wanted to refer me to a breast clinic (the one stop shop).

she said that the upper part of my right breast felt much more nodular than the left, She noted that there was no axillary LNA, which I think is something to do with the Lymph nodes.  she also mentioned (but didnt put it on the referral form) that she thought there was some puckering/dimpling on the right breast when I was lying down.

I've got the referral for 4th June, which feels like ages away.

Are there any ladies out there who have had a similar experience at a clinic, and if so, what was the outcome?  I'm trying not to panic until there is something to panic about, but of course I am worried

There is no breast cancer in my immediate family (sisters, mum, grandmas), but two of my great aunts died of it, and one of their daughters has it (she is 84 though).  I think her daughter died of it too.  Not sure if they are close enough to be relevant.

I'm on HRT, have been for 3 years now

Thanks for reading

Carry on with the HRT.

DH thought that I had dimpling - showed the breast to my GP who told me it was OK.

Best to get it looked at.  Ultra sound is a deeper method of breast examination so you may be offered this at the examination.

4th June isn't that long away.  I saw a Consultant privately and had a 10 days wait, following needle biopsy, B4 treatment got under way.  That was in 1995.

MayB make a note of your worries to take with you to the appt..  R U still getting periods?

Hi Dougalina,

I don't have any personal experience of this but I have found the link below, which I hope will calm your worries.

Found another one.

thank you all for the replies,

Aprilflower -- that's so helpful, thank you  :).  I eel a lot better now.  I suspect its due to the HRT.  I've been round this merry go round before.  About 2 years ago, my menopause doctor thought she could feel cysts, and insisted I go to the Breast clinic. I did, had an US & mammo, it was all just breast tissue.  I have fairly recently increased my oestrogel a bit, so its probably that all over again.  I'll go to the appointment, better to check I suppose, but I don't feel so worried now.   When yesterdays doctor  prodded my armpit and lower breast, that was tender and painful.

And you are right jaypo, the doctors are not specialists, but I suppose they are well meaning.

As for the dimpling! I have lost quite a bit of denesity/volume from my breasts (gone from an E cup to a DD cup, so there is an element of "balloon after christmas" going on too, hahaha

Thanks again

I was told by the breast clinic that cyst are common on the lead up to menopause, I’m on my 4th trip back in 6 years, not reached menopause just yet. Try not to worry most things are benign but best be on the safe side.

Anything sinister is usually hard and doesn't move much when pressed on,cysts can be fairly large but softer and move from under your fingers when you press on them. Floo is right, they are very common and most women have them as they age
