New to HRT - Awful Side Effects
« on: May 18, 2021, 08:18:43 AM »

Hi

I've just started HRT - utrogestan and patch.  Having done some research, I thought this was my best option as I came off Mirena coil years ago due to continuous weight gate which disappeared as soon as it was taken out.  My GP incorrectly prescribed me 100mg of utrogestan every day instead of 200mg for 11 days (I still have periods, albeit erratic).  However, after 3 days, I have really bad bloating, all over, the worst being in my legs which feel very heavy and slightly more solid than ever before!  And all this is with taking only half of my correct dosage.  My local GPs really don't much (they go off and check the internet apparently) so I have asked them to refer to the local NHS menopause clinic but there will be a wait.   Have scoured the internet about progesterone, I'm wondering if it down to too high levels of progesterone.   Has anyone else experienced this and does this even out.  Thank you!

I wouldn't necessarily blame the utrogestan yet - you were put on a continuous dose when you should have been on cyclical, but to be honest I suspect your body is getting used to the oestrogen bit still, at least that's what has caused that bloating feeling for me. It does calm down in my experience. Also when you get to your utrogestan take it at night, not in the morning also....

I agree on the possibility of it being estrogen and not just progesterone. Estrogen causes bloating for me. Having said that, have you considered taking the Utrogestan vaginally? It is supposed to lower side effects x

Hi,

can you take the utro sequentially as you are still peri? And give it 3 months to bed in. Some women do find progesterone  can bloat them, but that can subside after a while. Using it vaginally can help with this. If not then there are other progesterones that you can try such a provera. I hope it settles down for you.

It’s the utrogestan that bloats me and low Estrogen but we are all different.
