Newbie who needs help
« on: May 16, 2021, 09:37:53 AM »

Hi, I have been struggling with the menopause for years and seem to have everything! I finally got a GP to put me on Femseven coni which was not the one I asked for. I just have some questions girls. I put the patch on for the first time last night and I have a red ring around it detecting a reaction. Do I persevere?? Also the GP hasn’t said anything about coming of vagifem or my sertraline??  Does it take time to settle down on HRT when using for the first time?? Thanks

Hi! tell us more about yourself.  Age.  How are your periods?  Do you have 'vagifem' to use regularly?

A red ring is a warning, it could be due to the 'glue'  ::).  Hopefully you will get advice from someone else here.

Which symptom would you like to ease first?  We have good threads about 'bladder issues' and 'vaginal atrophy', the latter treatment is usually for ever to keep symptoms comfy.

Ask away.   :welcomemm:

Thanks for your reply. I am 47 and been suffering for at least 5 yrs. I kept getting uti’s and the go explained it was due to vaginal dryness and put me on vagifem which works well. 2 a week. I have gain 3-4 stone as my metabolism died! I have acid reflux, hot sweats in the evening and at night. Really bad. My muscle feel pulled and painful. Anxiety so bad I couldn’t get in a car with my husband!! So Doc put me on sertraline, which again works but it makes me very tired in the afternoons and want to fall asleep at my desk at work!!
Still have the red ring around the patch?? How long until the hot sweats stop?? 🤣🤣 Thanks

One can use 'vagifem' nightly to keep symptoms at bay.   Have you had a full blood count recently including VitD levels?

As oestrogen levels drop so muscles may be lax = aches and pains.  Over the counter pain relief can help.  As well as the body may become dry: inside and out.

Is there any info in the leaflet in the box?  Is the patch itching?  I would ring the Surgery for advice about the rash.

I would leave the patch on but keep an eye on it as may just be that it's pulled the skin at the edge. If you get spots or a rash under or around it then take it off and ask for a different brand. Flushes should go within a couple of weeks, other symptoms take longer. My anxiety and insomnia took 3 months. I would give it at least 2 months before reducing sertraline, probably better with 3.
