Hi ladies,

Long story. Finally had my hysteroscopy just over 3 weeks ago. After all the anxiety the experience was pretty good and in the meantime I skipped a period - finally at 56. Doctor doing hysteroscopy wasn't concerned. A very small endocervical polyp was found and removed. Two biopsies taken due to the first being insufficient. She thought she had enough in the second. A cervical smear was due so that was done. Offered mirena but as I had finally seemed to be settling down she agreed to wait and see snd that is something the GP could do. I have had no bleeding since mid February apart from the light spotting after the procedure.
I asked that the results went direct to the GP due to ny anxiety. Today a letter came with no explanation (presumably results have gone to the GP) with a gynae outpatient appointment with a nurse (same as my previous hysteroscopy appointment) for 26th August. Just says gynaecology outpatient clinic. My mind immediately went into overdrive thinking there must be something wrong, but my husband feels it is nothing concerning as it's in 4 months time. I'm now worried sick and can't speak to my GP at least until Tuesday.  I'm thinking there's an issue with my smear, or I have hyperplasia, or worse. If this were the case would I be waiting 4 months? My husband says it wouldn't be an appointment with a nurse for something like that.  I'm wondering if there could be a need for regular biopsies due to non atypical hyperplasia, or would I have to wait that long for another biopsy if the previous one was insufficient/inconclusive? Hubby says as my GP referred me to gynae maybe it's routine follow up before possible discharge. Has anyone experienced similar? Any advice appreciated. This was why I wanted results to go through my GP. But an appointment with no results is so stressful!

If it were serious you would have been called back pronto ;-)

It's probably a routine follow up, which is unusual - not many hospitals do those these days, the patient gets referred back to the GP 

....... and breath!  Ring the Dept next week to ask the question.

You wouldn't have to wait 4 months for anything serious. My local hospital has a trick of calling you in, making you wait 3 hours for your appointment, then telling you they have nothing to say and are signing you off. They should send a letter to your gp with any findings so maybe ask your surgery.

I wouldn’t have thought its anything serious with an appointment 4 months hence with a nurse? Your GP will have had a letter explaining the findings so maybe give them a ring just to put your mind at rest. Anxiety is awful, catastrophising black thoughts par for the course, maybe one phone call would put your mind at rest 🙏

I agree that you would have been called back much sooner if it was anything sinister.  Why not keep a note of any bleeding etc over the next few months so the clinic will have a clear picture of what's been happening (if anything). Maybe next time you attend clinic you could have the results sent to you directly as not having them seems to be causing more anxiety? I'm lucky with my surgery as we can access all results and letters online as well as having paper copies if we want.

I hope you manage to speak to the doctor and get reassurance so you can put it to the back of your mind.

Thank you all for your kind and thoughtful replies. I feel a little reassured, although the letter is just like the one I had for the initial hysteroscopy, however eith no accompanying leaflet to explain purpose or procedure.  I have convinced myself I have hyperplasia and need regular biopsies to monitor- or worse! At one point I decided it was a pre op appointment for a hysterectomy! I decided as I requested results go to the doctor this appointment letter has slipped through the net before I know the outcome. A friend says I'm being irrational. I have just worked myself up so much these past few months. If I had hyperplasia with atypia would I get an appointment 4 months away?

CLKD anxiety is through the roof today. I suspect the letter suggests a repeat hysteroscopy in 4 months which means I must have hyperplasia. If it was atypia would I be fast tracked for hysterectomy?

Friends have said it will just be a follow up, but surely if biopsies are clear you're just discharged back to your GP? And a nurse wouldn't do that. I've tried to be mindful all day and swing between catastrophising and talking sense into myself. It doesn't help I feel so low.
