I have been on evorel conti for over a year (and evorel sequi before that). The conti regime has been great for controlling my headaches but I have had issues with bleeding thoughout and recently have had regular episodes of flooding which make it difficult to go out. I'm got a scan for next week and Im pretty sure they are going to insist on a hysteroscopy which will be done by general anaesthetic and any fibroids and polyps removed. I am reluctantly considering having a mirena fitted at the same time as I have been told it is very good at controlling bleeding and I want to continue using HRT. My GP seems to think this is the best option, alongside using the estrogen spray which he said I would be able to adjust the dosage, which may be good as I have started to get a lot of hot flashes recently.

I am concerned that the mirena wont suit me and once it's in it's not easy to take it out. I've not had any negative experiences of progesterone use with evorel, or when I was on the pill and I was treated for post natal depression with progesterone injections many years ago with no apparent side effects. I don't know anything about the spray and how well it is absorbed, and how convenient it is.

It would be really helpful to hear peoples experiences, particularly positive ones!

I don't know. The dr said it was an estrogen spray, not gel. I hadn't realsied there was a spray. Having just googled I'm guessing it is Lenzetto he was referring to.

I agree with your gp a mirena is the best option to control bleeding. I've been considering one too and share your reluctance for the same reason. I think the thing to hold on to is that the vast majority of women are perfectly OK with it. Perhaps decide when you've had the scan. If there's a build up the mirena might be the best option but it might be a polyp/fibroid that they can remove.

Thanks. I have checked the site and Im concerned that there seems to be different advice about lenzetto dosage. I need to have the equivalent of evorel conti strength or even a bit more, and from what Ive beeen reading on here the manufactures say that's equivalent to one spray but women's experience is it is closer to 2 or 3. I'm concerned because my dr will only want me to have what he considers the standard dose so I may have to stick with evorel if I decide on a mirena.

Sheila that's a good point about the fibroid / polyps potentially sorting out the bleeding. I am happy with evorel apart from the bleeding so would rather continue with that. It's just that having a general anaesthetic it would be great to get it all sorted. Hopefully the scan will give some indication so I can make a decision.

I am in the same position exactly. Scan week after next, I know I have a good sized fibroid and even though on conti, still getting periods. I too am thinking of a mirena, hoping any negative effect might be papered over with a good amount of oestrogel and testim which I have just started taking.... I think with oestrogel its easier to get a bigger dose than the spray.

Also, its very easy to take out- done in two seconds, they just pull on the string!

I've just started on the Lenzetto spray and really like it. Much prefer it to the patches (which I worried about in the shower and which left marks on my skin) and you don't have to worry about cream absorbing into your hands. Lenzetto feels expensive to me - not sure if it actually is yet or not, my GP seemed to indicate it might not be available on the NHS but we'll see next month. I'm usng two sprays a day so one Lenzetto box doesn't last a full month, so I'm hoping it's not too expensive! My understanding is that one spray of Lenzetto is equivalent to two pumps of oestrogel or 1 50mcg patch.

I can't comment on the Mirena but I've had a non-hormonal coil in the past for years and the process itself is fine. Take some nurofen beforehand as an extra help - it feels like a sudden dose of really bad period pain but for like 3 seconds. Then it's done. Having it removed is really easy and was pain free for me.

I had a Mirena inserted before Christmas at the age of 57 because I started bleeding on an oestrogel/utrogestan continuous regime and developed endometrial hyperplasia and polyps.

The Mirena seems to be working very well for me. No more than a bit of spotting now for some months. The hysteroscopy I had about six weeks after seemed to indicate that things were clearing up in my endometrium and I will have another one in August.

I was first offered a Mirena a good ten years ago when I was bleeding a lot in peri. I read too many bad stories about it and wish I had listened to the female doctor who told me she personally had had no issues.

Hi Gilla999, the Lenzetto is more like 1 pump of Estrogel, I know that the Newson site says roughly equivalent to 2 pumps but it’s more like 1 pump, but then how you absorb it differs from person to person.  Subsequent doses are not comparable with the first according to studies and seems the case with the other HRT’s.

Interesting Floo - where does that info come from? It says 1.53mg estrogen on the box so I worked out the equivalent to Estrogel xx

I watched a video where Dr Newson was training GP’s on prescribing HRT.  I also wrote to the manufacturers because I was using 6 sprays and it made no difference to my symptoms.  Studies that have been done show that it’s quite weak but then it depends on how you absorb it, I’m clearly a poor absorber.

Thanks Floo - I've just had a search and seen some of the threads where you mention it. Because I'm finding the spray so convenient I think I'll stick with it and then increase as I need - with the possibility of adding some gel on top if I need it to make up the dose, as I  really couldn't get on with the patches and don't like swathing myself with loads of gel. Thanks for the info!
