Utrogestan Question Again.
« on: April 15, 2021, 09:37:32 AM »

Hello ladies

I apologise if I am repeating myself but I wanted to pick your brains again regarding Utrogestan.

I have been using the capsule vaginally but now I am spotting. I want to try orally again which means taking it on an empty stomach before bed. As I think I have already mentioned this is not possible for me as I have a light supper before I retire. Does anyone know how I can get around this ? I was thinking about contacting the manufacturers to ask for more information and wondered if anyone has done this?  The alternative is to take it before breakfast but surely the sedative effects would be a problem!

I cannot believe I am the only person to have this dilemma and I am hoping that someone can share their experiences.

Take care ladies.

Hi Kathleen

The leaflet says 2 hours after food or 1 hour before.  Could you take it early evening? An hour before your light supper?

Oh... I have never read the leaflet. Didn't realise there should be A time after or before eating. 🙄 I guess it's for absorbing reasons?

I think it's so you get the correct dose. If you eat the absorption can be effected. I would stick to the instructions on the leaflet. Not everyone gets the sedative effect so it might be worth trying it in the morning if that fits in better.

Hello ladies.

Thank you all for your comments.

I took my Utrogestan tablet at 10pm yesterday which was about two hours after dinner but before my supper at 11pm. I can be a bit of a snacker in the evening so I will have to curtail that maybe.

Since becoming hypothyroid I have needed to take my Levothyroxine tablet in the morning on an empty stomach so perhaps I could take the Utrogestan along with that. I don't know if I get the sedative effect so that would be a way of finding out. I am also worried that it will lower my mood for the day which I could really do without atm. On the other hand perhaps it will have a calming effect.  All so confusing!

Thanks again ladies and take care.
