External area vagina advice pleeeease
« on: April 02, 2021, 10:31:07 AM »

Hi ladies

Just a quick question. I am experiencing a sore irritation area on the external area of my vagina. Worst at night or first thing in the morning. Very irritating feel like I need to scratch the area but then I'm sore. Only been on my new Femseven patch 5 weeks and this started last week.

Can I buy any cream to help ??

Thanks Wx

Morning!

U can get appropriate vaginal atrophy treatment, I find 'ovestin' helps internally and around the outer labia area.

In the mean time, do you have any KY-Jelly type lubricant?  A little applied several times a day will help. As will LIVE yoghurt as it's soothing if a little messy  ::).  It helps ease any dryness = irritation.  Even Vaseline thinly spread ...... Grandma's stand by  ::)

My gynae suggest the YES brand of vaginal moisturiser.

Sounds like you need some local oestrogen treatment as CLKD says. Systemic HRT is often not effective for VA. You can ask for Ovestin or Vagifem by telephone appt with your GP, if it is not possible to get a face to face one. A proper vaginal moisturiser should also help, have a look at the Yes brand.

Thank you so much :)

I wasn't sure it was atrophy with it being on outside only :(

VA can affect the whole region: anus, vagina - inside and out ........... we have threads about 'bladder issues' and 'vaginal atrophy' for more hints.

Funny enough have been leaking a little the last few days :(

Will read and educate myself on this.

The correct term for VA is Genitourinary Syndrome of Menopause (GSM). Says it all really 🙂.

CLKD I have to also say thankyou!! I didn't realise VA affected the whole area....I've had aching in the rear also since the prolapse was diagnosed. I was quite freaked out by that...The consultant gynae did not tell me that either!  >:(  You are brilliant.

 what do 'experts' know  >:( - the more I hear the more it seems that Consultants no longer look outside their speciality!

As oestrogen levels drop the body may become dry: inside and out : anywhere there is skin may get dry = appropriate moisturiser or VA treatment  ;).  Fortunately my GP recognised my urine infection-type symptoms, was X that my urine hadn't been sent for testing in a Lab. and advised appropriate treatment  8)

Don't forget about the small possibility of lichen sclerosis too - that only affects the external vulval area.
