Hi,
I’ve not had a period for over three years. I’m on the  oestrogen patch and continuous utrogestan. In January I experienced some spotting. It was investigated  and nothing was found, except a slight thickening of the womb lining.

This week, I’m bleeding again, with tummy pain. I’ve missed a few utrogestan tablets accidentally, so was wondering whether this COULD account for the cause? I’ve been in touch with gyne and they will look further how, but I’m scared.

I’m going to request a hysterectomy ASAP I think.

Its the missing the tablets that would cause a bleed, if I tamper with any of my doses, it happens to me. Try not to get too worked up, get for a scan to put your mind at rest but dropping the Utrogestan dose will cause a bleed, our bodies become very sensitive to any changes.

Withdrawal of progesterone causes a bleed just like it does (usually) in sequi HRT where it's termed a 'withdrawal bleed'. I'm sure it will be ok again once you get back on track with the utrogestan. As Cassie says you can request a scan if you are worried but it's really only a short time since your last one.

Really hope it’s nothing sinister. I’ve got period pain too. Is that normal? Maybe it’s a fibroid? The hysteroscopy in January didn’t reveal any sign of cancer or anything sinister. I’ve got my smear booked for next week too, so hope the bleed has subsided by then .

Yes its normal with a withdrawal bleed.

It all sounds perfectly normal to me too. When you stop progesterone the womb lining begins to shed. A fibroid would have been picked up during your investigations. The cramping is the womb expelling the lining. Normal painkillers plus a hot water bottle should help.

Thanks Taz, you have reassured me greatly. After 3.5 years of being period free, it was a huge shock. The bleeding has subsided a bit now so hoping that’s the end for a a while. X

Yes Taz, back on track. Feeling so much better. I may call gynecology next week and explain what happened ( I didn’t twig that the missing utrogestan may have caused the bleed). They might want to investigate further anyway, which is fine, but I sure that is the cause. X
