Has anyone swapped from Evorel Conti to gel and tablets?
« on: March 20, 2021, 10:53:51 AM »

Hi - just a quick bit of advice please.  My wife has now been on Evorel Conti patches for 6 months.  Whilst they have made a huge difference in terms of reducing flushes, sweats, itchy skin etc, they haven't improved much else and other symptoms are creeping in such as bladder issues/terrible reflux (omeprazole is improving this)/moods remain unimproved by patches etc etc. We are going back to the GP on Monday to discuss a different regime.  She can't take oral estrogen.  We will be asking for gel but my question is what sort of regime should we ask for?  She is 50 - no period for 15 months, but is happy to have a regular period on a sequi regime if necessary.  Can we ask for a conti regime with gel and progesterone?  Also, as the 50mg of estrogen in the patch clearly isn't sufficient, will she likely need to start on 3 pumps a day? (my understanding is that 30mg is equivalent to 2 pumps?) Thank you!

Hi yes you can have a conti regime on Oestrogel and Utrogestan . Use Oestrogel every morning and take 100mg of Utrogestan every night on an empty stomach .

A 50mg patch is roughly equivalent to 2 pumps of Oestrogel , so she may need more .

I went from Elleste Duet Conti to 4 pumps of Oestrogel . It works for me xx

Hi the tablets I was taking weren’t helping my symptoms at all. I needed more oestrogen and the specialist I saw recommended the gel and Utrogestan and testosterone . X

Hi Dotty - just to say thanks for the advice.  GP prescribed 3 pumps a day plus 100mg utrogestan every day.  Day 8 today and we wait with baited breath.......have to say though, the utrogestan is knocking her out!  Do you experience that?  Better than insomnia I guess  ;D

Hi Utrogestan is known to have a sedative effect. It doesn’t affect me that way though. My insomnia has gone since starting HRT. X

I get fatigue with it. It's the reason I intend to stick to a sequi regime on a long cycle. It would be worth trying it vaginally as you get fewer side effects that way though I use it that way and still feel washed out.

Thanks Sheila - can you literally just use the little round tablet vaginally?!  I thought we'd have to ask for a pessary or something - seems strange to just "stick an oral tablet up there"!!

Yes, it's the same. Push it up as far as you can just before you go to bed.
