Why do we have flares from Atrophy.
« on: March 18, 2021, 09:28:46 PM »

Pleased to report I have had four good months with my Atrophy. Such a relief. Have been using the vagifem twice or three times a week, Estriol mixed with a little Yes OB nightly and taking my Kliovance tablet daily. I am now doing a weeks reload of vagifem as advised by a lady Doctor as the Atrophy has flared up again. Hoping it is short lived. Don't think the lady Doctor knows much about Atrophy from her response to my email. Unfortunately, my lovely mail doctor who was knowledgeable has left the practice.  Guess it is is normal to have a flare, it's very frustrating. Does anyone else suffer flares?

I feel your pain Midnight Shadow. My virgina has been burning me all day today.
My last loading for a flare up was 10th October, so I’m happy to have gone so long without one.
Last year I had 5 flare ups  :o

I’ve had virginal atrophy for 2 and half years now. I’ve started off with Ovestin and after nine months because I was having pain again (pain is always on the outside) my doctor change me to Vagifem. After my 5 flares up. I got permission to insert both Ovestin and Vagifem,

My routine-  night one- Vagifem and Ovestin externally
night two- Ovestin internally and externally
night three- Vagifem and Ovestin externally
                   night four- nothing
Then I repeat, so why I’ve got a flare up now, I’ve no idea? Is it the now medication I’m on? The fact that I have two Metamucil drinks (orange flavour) recommended by my doctor?

I’m up to night three, if I’m still in pain I will reload again. I also recommend the Facebook group which is private calked Virginal Atrophy. I read a post the other day where a lady believes certain food sets you off, like coffee, wine and someone mention citrus. Which is why I question Metamucil, I’ve been on it a month but only one dose, but I’m on day 5 of doing two doses a day?
I’m very careful in the shower only use Dove sensitive soap and bend over to wash out shampoo and conditioner. Wash my underwear in baby sensitive washing liquid and use Yes VM and Olive and Bee as my daily moisturiser.

So frustrating not sure what more I can do

Yep.  It may be that oestrogen levels drop causing more dryness.  Usually 4 me going into a 5 night reload of 'ovestin', plus regular 'nurofen' to ease the need2pee sensations, works.  Some require 'vagifem' nightly without a break.

It's a real nuisance!

Thanks for responding ladies. Had a good nights sleep and not so burny today. I do have a slight itch in the clit area. Don't have it every day so pleased about that. It comes and goes. Lady Doctor who hasn't seen me, only emailed, thought it may be thrush. Had that before, so I know it isn't. Anyway, using a little dermovate in that area. Can't understand why doctors always think it is thrush and want to treat for that. Am on the facebook Vaginal Atrophy site, like this site it is brilliant. Anyway ladies, thankyou for sharing your knowledge.

Keep treating that clit area, it dries out really easily.

If the urine is dilute enough spices etc. won't have any effect.  We eat curries regularly, lots of ginger and garlic in every meal, drinking tea .....

For whatever reason, I’m much better today? More like my normal self. So I wonder what course the mini flare up.

I drink i cup of herbal tea everyday. The only thing I can think of is the night before I use Ovestin. It was the last of the cream and the applicator has been use for a while, now in the bin. New tube new applicator.

How does everyone wash theirs?

I filled the sink with hot water, after use, I use a straw cleaning brush to clean the inside and my hand to clean the outside. Wash my hands. Leave the applicator to drain out overnight then stick it in my bathroom draw.

Wishing you all pain free virginas  :)

I wash my tubes after use as you do, never had problems.

I draw up the amount of product to the red line and insert, then add a small amount to the applicator and wipe gently around the outer areas.

Last evening my urethra had a burning feeling, so I made the decision to reload for another 11 days, as I already done 3.

My biggest fear is it will stop working one day and I will have a constant burning virgina for the rest of my life. I’m only 46.

And I hate the cost, I believe it cost me about $1.70 and day to treat this :o
