I used too have very heavy periods prior too this and without being too graphic sorry ladies ,
It would be heavily visible in the toilet .
This hasn't happened , just had a few days of brown discharge followed then by this bleed bright red blood when wiped ..
I do not take HRT.

Hi BattyBoo, a similar thing happened to me, I’m 58 also not taking hrt,  I spoke to my GP who referred me for urgent scan, where they said uterus lining was thicker than normal, then I had a hysteroscopy on 25th Feb where they removed a polyp from my uterus and took a biopsy of my womb lining. I’m just waiting for the results 😬😬 It would seem that this could just be another period for you but after that length of time it’s always best to speak to your GP and have it checked out! Let us know how you get on & take care. 😘

Did it feel like a period? Some people do have a long gap then a period but any bleeding after a year should be investigated.

I had 10 months without at age 51 then returned to fairly regular periods. As Sheila asked did you have the usual period signs?

It happened to me, 53 weeks between periods, so annoying because of course it's a red flag so I had to have scans. But everything was fine. It seems as though it's just "one of those things".

Hey BattyBoo, I did reply to you before. Please speak to your GP & get it checked out!! I thought my problem was menopausal but after hysteroscopy & biopsy I was called back to hospital Friday to be told I have Complex Hyperplasia With Aytipia. So I have to undergo a complete hysterectomy next month, this condition is pre cancerous cells but when they remove the uterus they can’t rule out they won’t find cancer! Consultant said it was so good I didn’t waste any time.  Just have a chat with your GP tomorrow, it’s always best to get these things checked out, you know your own body and as you’ve asked on here a couple of times your obviously not completely satisfied with what’s going on.
You take care & keep us informed NinaXXX 😘

Hi Nina,

So sorry I have only just read this. Just wanted to send you all the love in the world.

Yes Battyboo check with your GP who will arrange a scan, or pay for a private scan if you prefer but get a scan to make sure all is well which I am sure it will be. It will give you peace of mind.

xx

Thanks Machair, I have an MRI scan tomorrow (is this usual before a hysterectomy 🤷‍♀️) then they’ll give me a date for the operation. Best to remove it all as the alternative is far worse!!

BattyBoo... hopefully you had a chat with your GP, let us know how your doing. Xx

Not having a period for nearly a year suggests that the oestrogen is already quite low so why should the lining of the womb thickens in women not on HRT after they haven't had a period for that long?  It doesn't make sense and it seems that this meno thing is unpredictable. It can do all sorts of things.  I haven't had s period for 14 months now and I hope that they will never return.

KarineT The womb line thickens when there is too much estrogen & not enough progesterone. Which is why the Mirena coil which is a progesterone iud is often used to alleviate this problem. The thickness of the endometrium is a build up of cells called Hyperplasia, then you have hyperplasia with Aytipia where the cells are pre cancerous and if not treated will eventually become womb cancer. Ok so maybe some women have higher oestrogen than progesterone but I thought that this would happen in peri only because in post both oestrogen and progesterone are meant to be permanently low. Unless I'm wrong and in this case what would cause the oestrogen to be too high at this stage in the meno and make the lining of the womb thicken, especially if one is not on HRT?

I've just read about hyperplasia. It seems that it's a condition that occurs in postmeno but that's strange because at this stage of the meno we are supposed to be low in both oestrogen and progesterone, hence the reason why our periods stop.  This meno thing is not consistent at all.  These hormones do stupid and scary things.
