Hi Gnatty

I have been considering taking digestive enzymes but not sure which is the best  any suggestions would be greatly appreciated
Many thanks
I would recommend Bio Kult they were used in a study on a recent TV documentary and had very good results. I've been using them for a couple of weeks and starting to see some improvement.

Hi

Its a minefield isnt it?  We are not supposed to eat white bread/refined carbs as it causes sugar spike, but wholemeal causes digestive issues?  Yesterday I put my breadmaker on and made a loaf using half and half, with a few seeds thrown in.  As for tea and coffee, I only drink decaff, but from what Gnatty says, maybe it could be the tannin that's  the problem.  I'm trying to drink more peppermint or ginger tea, but feel like I really need my decaff coffee first thing (or is it just a habit that I need to break..hmmm)

I'll look up the FODMAP diet.

BioKult  was the probiotic that the colorectal consultant who did my colonoscopy recommended too.  I took that for a while, but then when I couldn't get it one time, I switched to Boots Good Gut.

Have you tried Spelt flour in your breadmaker Dougalina?

It's supposed to be less of an irritant, as it's an ancient wheat grain.

I have cut out wheat and use spelt flour and it definitely makes a difference for me anyway. Worth a try

thanks Shady, I'll look out for that next time I'm in the supermarket, I didn't know you could use spelt in a breadmaker!

I'm wondering about this latest flare up.  I remember the evening before it got bad, I had prosecco... I rarely drink, and that was my first drink this year.  I wonder if it irritated my system, and now I'm struggling to settle things down

BOWELS  >:( + HORMONES  >:(  >:(

I've had gut problems my whole life.  Culminating [sp] in my digestive system almost stopping completely due to being anorexic.  GP gave me 'colpermine' capsules and 'motillium' to swallow within an hour of eating my main meals.  After that I had slow transit  :-\

I have successfully used 'milk of magnesia' and 'Rennies' as required.  Now that I have a reflux-related irritating cough, my GP has prescribed 'gmprazolol' at night.

MayB keep a food/liquid diary for 3 days, making a note of *everything* you swallow.  That will give an idea as to when the bowels behave/not.  If there's pain/not.  Etc..

Then think about what to cut from your diet.  I eat white bread toast as I don't like any other type  ::) although I will eat a slice of the bread which DH makes when it's still warm.  I do buy wholemeal bread rolls from 'waitrose' occasionally.  Chocolate makes my bowel sluggish.

I eat a good quality muesli with milk for breakfast, pizza for lunch most days and a varied chicken or meat meal with rice/pasta/lots of veg..  Occasionally DH will cook a chicken which lasts in various forms for 4-5 nights.

I ought to eat more nuts, fruits and veg.; I'm fussy about bananas, they have to absolutely 'right'  :D.  Apples take too much munching and pears can be iffy ...........

Let us know how you get on.  The gut is the 2nd brain and can make us feel unwell when it isn't nurtured.

It is all so complex... I dont even dare to go to GP as I wouldnt know where to start with all my symptoms. When the digestion is okay-ish, the sore throat and irritating cough I also have constantly start to worry me and if it is not those, it is the abdominal pains, which dont feel like digestive system pains but chest pain, heart pain, liver pain, lung pains. Sometimes they will stay for several days - a pain in one spot in the abdomen and my anxiety goes off. I am still wondering if I need more tests just to make sure these various organs are okay... Or, if the fact that things are constantly moving and are so plentiful mean that it is nothing serious. I just cannot for the life of me comprehend how hormones' (or anxiety) can produce all these unexplained pains...
I just wish it would stop eventually!
Have a good weekend all! Jule

Sounds like silent reflux?  When I get indigestion it begins in the middle of my - well, that soft bit below the rib cage - ? solar plexus ?  Then I get reflux: bile burning back up the gullet which produces a lot of saliva to the point of dribbling.  Back aches, into the chin and temple region of the face.   DH rubs my back gently to move the wind around, we can hear and feel it.  Referred pain can cause lots of different aches.

Make a list of your symptoms over the next few days.  You may C a pattern.

Hi Gnatty, isn't that always the way?  But it did help your acid stomach?  Hope you feel better soon

Jules  -- I get this as well.  Last year I had a lot of pain in my left side.  All the scans and tests came back negative, but it took about 6 weeks for it to improve.  At the moment, my stomach and guts are feeling horrible, but I also get pain on both sides, above my hips, sort of where my waist is, as well as a digging sort of pain under my ribs. Today, I noticed that it felt like I had something   If you are worried, maybe you could ask your GP to refer you for an abdo ultrasound?

shady, thanks so much for this , I'll get some on my next trip to Sainsburys.   :-*

Trying to have a bland diet for a while, see if it helps.  FODMAP will take a bit of planning and shopping

Thank you ladies, as ever. I’ve not been on here for ages, and then this week - bam! All of the above- the reflux, the sore throat, the pain in stomach - all of it. Most of all though - THE ANXIETY!!! I have learnt now to just come on here, and I know this will all decrease. You lot are amazing!

Hi Gnatty
I too suffer with digestion issues. I would be very grateful for any advice you can give on digestive enzymes.
I have read they may help when gall bladder has been removed but I have no idea where to start.
Thanks for any advice
