Is this normal? X
« on: February 10, 2021, 11:55:18 AM »

Hi guys! Hope you are all ok and not suffering too badly with this madness 😚

I'm sorry to keep asking questions 🤦‍♀️ but hopefully someone can shed some light on this!

I have been off my HRT for 2 weeks now (and gradually feeling better off it for now.  I may have another go on it if things get horrible again (several weeks of palpitations, anxiety etc)... I really dont think it agreed with me at the moment and maybe messed up my peri fluctuating hormones (who knows?).

Anyway, I have been off it for two weeks now and I have had continuous spotting (started with a withdrawal bleed and just carried on....

Is this normal for it to last for so long? Is it my peri hormones? Or still withdrawing from the patch? Any thoughts would be appreciated.

Thank you so much .... this site is amazing!

Probably because you have halted your treatment.  Does it say in the leaflet in the HRT box?

' a few months' - probably nothing to worry about. 4 me a few months is between 2 and 6, depending on how worried I might be  ::). How do you feel otherwise?

I don't know long you should give it but I'd see a gp long before 'a few months'. Are you up to date with smears? My spotting (well before menopause) was caused by pre-cancerous cells that would have developed into cervical cancer if it had been left. Probably hormones but best to be sure.

Thank you girls, I'm so grateful for your replies 😚

I'm not too worried... yet 😬! I feel ok apart from the spotting... I've been 2 days of feeling nearly normal 😁 which lately, has been an achievement.   Everything seems to have calmed for now.

Sheila99 I had a smear end of November which was normal xxx

I had a week off (continuous) HRT and had what looked like a very light bleed. I don't know what/why this bleed was but it didn't last long and cleared up after a few days.

Spoke to Doc today, she said the spotting can take a while to settle ....

Still have anxiety a little 🙁 but better than I was, as I could hardly go out before, only to work.  The Doc wasnt really impressed that I didn't abide by her suggestion of doubling the Sertraline (I did for a week then changed my mind... wanted to see if I was better without doing that).  She seems to think I'm a bit strange as she thinks my symptoms are odd, she was lovely though! I'm just off for my first walk with my friend and I'm slightly anxious, but I think that is due to the fact I'm anxious about the palpitations coming back and I'm going to get worse again... just started on magnesium yesterday, so that may help xxx

Your symptoms sound a lot like mine. I was on sertraline, and happy on it for years, but last fall it all just felt like too much. I was too keyed up and irritable. Like how the first day or two on sertraline the anxiety felt SUPER magnified before it felt better after settling in a few weeks.
I decided to try to taper down my sertraline. My thinking was that if my symptoms were caused by low estrogen, and sertraline increases serotonin and so does estrogen, perhaps I was being overserved. I am not on any sertraline now and there is still some background anxiety. What my tracking has showed me though is that with higher estrogen doses, my irritability, anxiety and on edge feeling increases. I think perhaps that what I thought was low estrogen anxiety was actual HIGH estrogen. That due to increased FSH of peri/menopause, my body was pumping out more estrogen than I thought it was. So piling on more estrogen, and adding sertraline, I was flooding myself. Verging on serotonin syndrome. This is my current working theory.

I recently halved my dosage of estrogen as I wasn’t seeing a benefit, and am considering further reduction. I have had tests to see where I’m at. I have a Mirena which acts locally not systemically (someone will be along to say that it does act systemically, but primarily it acts locally). So the estrogen in my system as a whole wasn’t complimented with progesterone appropriately, so the overall balance was off. I *think* I’m on the right track now. It’s hard to know but I’ve got two years of symptoms, tracking, and trial and error to see what’s worked and whatnot.

Hi Shannonplussed 😊 I'm sorry you've been feeling similar to some extent to me.  I was toying with the idea of progesterone cream off the Net, but not sure whether it would be dangerous 😮 I was going to ask the GP this morning but forgot... not sure what else to do atm but at the moment, I feel better, not 100 per cent, but better xxx
