I'm an ordinary-looking young 62 year old  ;D and last year decided to stop using moisturiser containing spf during our UK winter. The only exception is if I'm planning to spend the whole day outside, in which case I use an spf30 moisturiser.  During the summer I use Olay with spf30 most days or an aussie brand with spf50 if I'm going to be outside for any length of time.

I've just moved away from Olay as I didn't like their only moisturiser that I could find without spf and have started to use MooGoo Ultra hydrating Face Cream. I like the simplicity of their ingredients and have seen how effective their kids products are as my Australian daughter-in-law uses them on my grandchildren. In the summer I'll use Olay again for the spf30 when I need it.

I decided that I didnt want to continue to use all of the chemicals in the spf cream on a daily basis when, lets face it, most of my time is spent indoors in a UK winter! I'm going to 'mix n match' and only use it when I'm going to be outdoors.

I spend several months a year in Queensland, over there I don't set foot out of the house without moisturiser with spf50 and re-apply several times a day!

If you're not outdoors it doesn't matter. I do a bit of dog walking so wear it even on a dull day, but as I've said it's because of advice I've been given both regards skin cancer and aging. My parents have both had skin cancers and my sister is younger than me and recently had 2 on her face. She was told she'd have to wait 12 months to see the hospital specialist. They're prioritising melanoma and BC cancers are taken off the cancer pathway in our area. It scared the hell out of me. So I slap it on. I'm using sknfed natural skin products at present. Their moisturiser has a SPF 30 in it. I wish I had done throughout my life but I'm from the era when we used Johnson's baby oil in summer!

Having had Actinic Keratosis treated on my nose, I always use an SPF face cream.  The dermatologist told me that factor 30 was sufficient, but most of the better quality ones now seem to be factor 40,  which is what I am using now.

My patch is starting to creep back so I am monitoring it.  The treatment is not very pleasant.

I can imagine. My sister's was on her nose and her treatment was very painful involving grafts.  I've had/got a patch of keratosis on my hairline. I think it must be the other type as they weren't concerned but did freeze it off for aesthetic reasons. A bit is growing back and I'm waiting for it to be done again. I've been waiting since August. The freezing was so painful though. Good that you're being vigilant. I think the younger generation are using skin protection more routinely now, I've seen children applying their own
