I rang the hospital, a recorded message goes through all the usual safety regulations COVID and others, then I was put into a lengthy queue.....I didn’t wait as I’m sure the receptionist would only reaffirmed what I’d been told already.

Thanks ladies, spot on mentally & physically draining that’s how I feel 😕 do you think it could be a bladder infection/uti are these the same? It doesn’t hurt when I wee but feel an urgency more, it’s the burning back ache that’s exhausting. skkb I recently had to go to a hospital appointment & found it much better because it’s all so quiet, one way system & not many people about, I was still scared silly though x

Itwillpass - ring your GP Surgery if you have unexplained backache with irritable bladder symptoms.  Ask for a urine sample to be sent away to check if an infection is suspected.

Interestingly my daughters neighbour has today gone into the same hospital as the one I’ll be visiting on Thursday, she is having a camera into her bladder, so quite invasive, she had to have a COVID test before the appointment and isolate thereafter before going in. She is 80. I have received no such advice or request which seems a bit odd, nor as to what/when pain relief to take beforehand. It does appear that the hospital clinic are fairly quiet with not too many people, which is a comfort. All I’ve taken today is the AB and another buscopan (the leaflet inside it is given for “calming the bladder) and I have to say it feels much better although hopefully the ABs are also kicking in!!

The urine sample must be sent to a Lab. to make sure that you have been given the correct AB and not a broad spectrum which may not kill the bug.  Take some pain relief too.  You can ring to speak to the Nurse in the morning if you are worried.  Make a list first!

I've had nitro a few times but I'm afraid it's not worked for me and I usually end up on amoxicillin. See how it goes though. If your doc is worried about your kidneys then I'd suggest taking your temperature each morning just to make sure you are not developing a kidney/upper urinary tract infection. Also nurofen is not recommended for kidney infection. Paracetamol is better.

Oh no Taz2 that’s no good  :-\ yes that’s a good idea with the temperature I’ll do that, I’ve never had an infection before & the nurse has sent my health anxiety sky high now mentioning kidneys. I usually only take paracetamol as ibuprofen upsets my stomach but I was trying both with the back ache but neither helped with pain, does this seem odd?!

Try not to worry. If neither paracetamol or ibuprofen helped with the back pain I think it's unlikely it's caused by your kidneys. Whereabouts in your back is the pain? When I had a kidney infection I felt really Ill  - not just back pain - with a high temperature, nausea and flu- type feeling. Your doc was just being cautious I think.
