New to HRT - 8 weeks in/still not good
« on: December 16, 2020, 09:53:27 AM »

Hi Ladies

I have the doctor calling today and would really appreciate your help.
I have been on Evorel Sequi for 8 weeks.  A lovely lady told me to have the ICU coil fitted as i was struggling with low mood on the combined patch.  I had sickness/anxiety etc. which has improved alot.  The problem I am still getting is the very low moods which just leave me crying (prior to taking HRT i did not cry).  I am just managing to get to work most days, however I know I am under performing which is causing me worries.  My boss has been brilliant but this has been going on now for 3 months and their is a limit to how much they can support.  I seem to get 2 good days, then the rest are awful.  Every day is a battle to get through which leaves me feeling totally deflated.  I am doing everything they say, no coffee/alcohol, exercising etc.
Today I am working from home and just crying as I work.  I also feel slightly light headed.
Will this settle down over next 4 weeks or should I ask to try something else?

What sort of coil is it? If it's one with a progestogen eg mirena and you're using combined patches you will be getting far too much.
It sounds to me that you don't get on with the progestogin used by evorel and would be better changing to something that uses a different one. I think it's unlikely to settle.

Hello jchubb and welcome to the forum.

Like you I am struggling with low moods and crying so I have recently restarted HRT after a long break.  I used to have mild symptoms of tearfulness  when I used  low dose HRT in the past but since stopping completely this symptom has become a lot more intense. I wonder if you should also consider an increase in your oestrogen when reviewing your change of patch?

I am sorry that I can't be of more help but I do sympathise and you are not alone with this problem.

I hope your doctor was able to help you but keep posting for more help and advice.

Take care.

K.

Hi Ladies

Thanks for your comments, unfortunately my doctor is annual leave so had another lady.  Explained my problems and see said HRT is not for low mood!  and prescribed a low does of anti depressants.  I am going to try these as I am at my wits end, never felt so low in my life.
I am tempted to up my does myself, but so all over the place I really do not know left from right at the moment.

If the gp isn't aware that low mood is a meno symptom it's time she was educated. I would complain to the practise manager, ADs are not appropriate treatment for meno. Perhaps have a look at the Treatments tab and tell them what you want.

I would try a different hrt with a different progesterone. I was prescribed elleste duet a few years ago with the same progesterone as evorel. I was the same, very anxious and tearful. My GP at the time said the same as yours that HRT isn’t for mood and anxiety and took me off it. I took one anti depressant she gave me and I couldn’t function, I didn’t take any more. Fast forward three years of nothing and I couldn’t take any more. Went back armed with info from here and asked for Femeston which has dystrogesterone instead of norethisterone. What a difference. Good luck 🤞
