Olympian Katie Archibald said she tried desperately to save her partner Rab Wardell as he suffered a fatal cardiac arrest in bed beside her.

The champion cyclist expressed her devastation after Wardell, a mountain biker, died aged 37 on Tuesday morning.

His death came two days after he won the Scottish MTB XC Championships in Dumfries and Galloway.

Dan Walker, off TV, had a nasty run in with a vehicle, photos of him in A&E looking very bashed about the face  :-\. Good job he wasn't in Strictly at the time!  Same with 1 of the F1 drivers, cycling accident at the beginning of the season - Lance Stroll.  No practicing for him!

Cycling season started but it's rarely on TV until the large races begin  :-\

Crikey!  Paris-Nice this week  :o.  Cyclists wrapped up against the cold French winds, cycling like fury to stay warm as well as a head of the game.   :-*

Sadly - the woman's Tour of England is cancelled due to lack of sponsorships.  Looks like the bottom has dropped out of the enthusiasm  :'(

I suppose that road closures have to be paid for; plus any road maintenance to make it safe; all the support vehicles ..........  :-\

THE WOMEN'S TOUR POSTPONED FOR 2023

We are disappointed to bring you the news that the Women’s Tour, the award-winning and trailblazing cycle race, will take a one-year hiatus in 2023.

Owing to a combination of increased running costs (approximately 20% higher in comparison to the 2022 race) and a reduced level of commercial support, it has proved impossible to deliver the event that we proposed for June.

The decision has been taken now following a three-week renewed appeal for funding, which included an incredibly popular crowdfunding scheme that was enthusiastically supported by over 500 of you.

We would like to thank everybody who donated or shared the story for their unwavering loyalty, as well as all the messages of goodwill that have been sent over the past month.

This outcome is incredibly disappointing for us and all of our stakeholders who were set to host this year’s race, and who have shown great support and understanding throughout this process. We will continue to work with them to explore opportunities for hosting world-class cycling events in the near future and look forward to the Women's Tour being back, better than ever, in 2024.

Thank you for your support.

 :ola:

I can't believe it - the year is flying by  :o

Former Tour de France winner Geraint Thomas is "super excited" to be returning to the Giro d'Italia, which starts on Saturday, 6 May.

Thomas, 36, has been named in the Ineos Grenadiers team for the three-week race alongside Ben Swift and Tao Geoghegan Hart.

Former Giro winner Geoghegan Hart won April's Tour of the Alps, a race in which Thomas finished 15th.

He'll be missed.

Glad he got to equal Eddie Mercks record, shame  it wasn't to be to beat it , but he gave it all he had, a fine and fair entertainer for all cycling fans....🚲

Sense at last! 2023 Cycling

British Cycling is to ban transgender women from the female category of its competitions following a nine-month review and consultation.

Under a new participation policy that the governing body said was "predicated on fairness", such athletes will compete in an 'open category' with men.

Female races will be "for those whose sex was assigned female at birth".

The changes will prevent riders such as Emily Bridges potentially being part of the British women's team.
