Lack of Sleep
« on: November 16, 2020, 12:49:05 PM »

Hi its been a while but i always pop back on here as the advices helps a lot, so approaching 60 now, started menopause about 5 years ago, started off having anxiety, flushes, night sweats, but the anxiety has eased and the flushes really.

Lately i am not sleeping, keep waking through the night and constantly feel shattered, especially when i have work in the morning, part of is it due to night sweats, you know the feeling duvet on duvet off!, but other than that i dont know why im suddenly not sleeping.

any advices would be much appreciated

My sleep has been rubbish for ages,I'm used to the sweats now and have a huge fan by my bed but since cutting out coffee, I sleep brilliantly, well at least 95% of the time, the change is incredible. Are you a coffee drinker?

But doesn't tea have caffeine too? I now just drink herbal teas,no caffeine at all, maybe you should try it,say for a week? Unfortunately a lot of women suffer from disturbed sleep, adrenaline rushes wake me sometimes

yes also has caffine, i dont know why but always think as tea as not so bad, i also drink it really milky, vicious circle really drinking caffine drinks to keep you going through the day and could well be adding to the cause of not sleeping, will definately try cutting down or out altogether see if it helps, thanks

Milky tea  :sick02:  :-X

Non-caffeine drinks  :pills:  :-X. Chocolate has caffeine ...........

Could be cortisol waking you?   Are you dreaming which might disturb sleep?  The more we lose sleep the more we worry which becomes a circle.  I took piriton on Sat night, supposedly non-drowsy - slept nearly all of Sunday and last night, apparently it's like living with a dormouse  ::) [as long as I'm not dipped into a pot of honey ;-) ]

For me insomnia is a meno symptom, currently cured by hrt. Not saying yours is but as you're having flushes you do still have meno symptoms so perhaps this is too.

Still here  ;D intermittently  ;D

I hate milk unless chocolate is added  ;D.  MayB try eating little and often, i.e. every 3 hours, 24/7.  Also keep a diary of what you eat and when you have dips to see if you can adjust what you eat and when.  Important to eat plenty of protein, fruits and veggies.

Hello karenja

I sometimes wonder if, as one set of symptoms resolve, others arrive to take their place. Insomnia is definitely on the list of meno problems and if your anxiety and flushes have eased perhaps your poor sleeping is the next phase of meno for you?

I recall having daily headaches but after six months they stopped happening and have never returned. I have also had adrenaline surges, palpitations and nausea in the past but not now. Having said that some symptoms have persisted for me, mild flushes for example.

If you are not sleeping properly you are bound to be tired and grumpy, who wouldn't be? Perhaps do all you can to improve your quality of sleep and hopefully your night sweats will soon ease as have your other symptoms. If not HRT is worth considering.

Wishing you well.

K.
