Dies the menopause cause you to think more negative?
« on: November 08, 2020, 10:58:24 PM »

Hello,

Has the menopause affected the way you think?  For instance, do you find that your thinking is more negative than before?  I wonder if it's  because of the anxiety that a lot of us experience during the menopause.

I would very much appreciate it if you could share your experience.

Thanks

Thanks Birdy for your reply.

Anxiety is one of the symptoms I'm trying to control so I am reluctant to go on HRT. It seems that Utrogestan can make anxiety worse and I really don't understand as it's supposed to have the opposite effect.

I've always been someone with a positive outlook (glass half-full etc) and still have this but I've been taking HRT since just before I reached menopause so I've no idea what would have happened had my oestrogen (and testosterone) plummeted and stayed low....

Oestrogen is the feel good, "female" hormone.... that's why HRT was invented, amongst other reasons.

I worried more when peri-menopausal because my hormonal levels were up and down so much - and cried buckets - but since menopause and stable on HRT my mood remains stable - not ecstatic (as when fertile) but positive and contented!

Thanks Hurdity for the reply.

I will need to seriously think about HRT.  My symptoms are mild to moderate, and I haven't had a period since January this year, but I can feel that things aren't the same as before.  Apart from Utrogestan, do you know if there are other types of progesterone available on the NHS?  Does progesterone exist in the transdermal form?

Thanks

50mg progesterone? That’s interesting Birdy. How did you hear about that & what type of p is it.

In terms of anxiety, mine lowers when I start progesterone. It has a really calming effect on my body. Just can’t take it for too long as it knocks me out so I need to take breaks.

Interestingly, the doctor I’m now under is Gluck trained. I can’t go on your low dose until my oestrogen levels come down but then I think we will review. I thought I was perhaps progesterone intolerant which led me to the Studd clinic but now I think I just need the right balance of progesterone & oestrogen. It’s all expensive but personally spend most of my money on my health at the moment & justify it to myself that I make cuts elsewhere to compensate. It’s an investment I need to make at the moment to try & keep working!
