Discharge with Vagifem
« on: October 28, 2020, 07:58:26 PM »

Hi all
I have been using Vagifem for about 6 weeks. I didn’t have any vagina problems before using it, the reason I am using it is for chronic UTI. Since starting it I have had daily discharge, white and thin , not thrush as had a swab test. Before starting Vagifem I didn’t have any discharge which was the case for quite a while. I am post menopausal but when I did have periods I occasionally had discharge. This daily discharge which can be copious at times is something I really don’t like. Does it always happen with Vagifem ? And does it decrease in time?
Thanks
Susan
Ps as yet the Vagifem has made no difference with my UTI symptoms which are urethral burning , bladder pain but no urgency or frequency
I am in treatment with a chronic UTI specialist who has prescribed long term antibiotics

Do you have a urine infection?  Sometimes it can become embedded which is something you need to know so that appropriate treatment is given.   Which ABs have been prescribed?

Who prescribed the 'vagifem', sometimes ladies required nightly, occasionally two at the same time ........ it's about managing vaginal atrophy.

Let us know how you get on with the ABs.  The vagina cleanses itself naturally and any excess VA treatment will escape.  It's doing it's job, lubricating an area that has dried, naturally due to a reduction in oestrogen.

Hi

I must have missed this post as I have just posted on the same topic.

I am day 3 of Vagifem and have had a copious discharge - no smell or anything but it is irritating my already sore skin.

I am struggling to persevere but others on here have told me it could be part of the 'waking up ' of the area. i am hoping it will settle. Couldn't stand it for the full two weeks. :'(

Yes I do have an embedded UTI which is why I am in treatment with a chronic UTI specialist. I am on Monuril at the moment but maybe changed to a new med soon as not made any change to my symptoms.

Who prescribed the 'vagifem', sometimes ladies required nightly, occasionally two at the same time ........ it's about managing vaginal atrophy.

The UTI specialist prescribed the Vagifem for my UTI symptoms. I don’t have vaginal atrophy or if I do I have no symptoms.

Let us know how you get on with the ABs.  The vagina cleanses itself naturally and any excess VA treatment will escape.  It's doing it's job, lubricating an area that has dried, naturally due to a reduction in oestrogen.

I know that oestrogen can increase the lubrication in vagina and that’s good for VA but before starting the Vagifem I had no uncomfortable feelings in vagina , it was the urethra that is the problem. No with this constant discharge I do feel uncomfortable in vagina , not pain just uncomfortableness of lots of discharge!
Hard to know it best to stop it or continue to see if helps with UTI ?

Sorry CLKD
tried to answer your questions by quoting them before writing my answers but instead seemed to have put whole thing as a quote!
Many apologies
Thanks for your thoughts

Hi Susan...the discharge is the residual fillers in vagifem.  My GP said your body takes what it needs and rids what it doesn't.  I too find it irritating but what I was like before, I'll live with it.  BTW...my GP said that the discharge is a GOOD sign and means your vagina is absorbing the estrogen.  Hope this helps.

If the urethra is the main problem put a little dab of ovestin in that part - get it on prescription from the GP.  It's about managing the condition.

Ps are there any topical oestrogen pessaries or creams not likely to cause a lot of discharge, really don’t like the constant discharge with Vagifem .  I am using this not for vaginal dryness but urethral pain.
Thanks

The only one that seems to be pure estrogen, no fillers is Estring.  I don't know much about the ring but several ladies here have used it.

Good luck.

Okay, I had a hysterectomy over two years ago still got my ovaries.
Ovestin for six months then I change to Vagifem.
Been using Vagifem for a year, I’m currently on Vagifem every second night and a odd Ovestin throw in.

I have never had any discharge since used Vagifem? Now is that normal?

Thanks Lyncola
