Symptoms when you’ve come off oestrogen anyone?
« on: October 22, 2020, 09:08:39 AM »

Hi I have recently come off oestrogel. I was on two pumps for about 4 months (one week on three pumps but didn’t work out hence me coming off it)

I went on it under a consultant due to mood issues suspected of being hormonal so I’m not in menopause yet. Maybe very early peri at 41.

I came off the oestrogen due to it causing my histamine levels to increase a lot so although my mood felt fab the histamine caused me to be jittery, hair loss, hot flushes, Flushing Red face, palpitations. All the stuff I suppose people go on hrt to get rid of!

I came down in oestrogen during Sept over 3 weeks.

I’ve had bad headaches which have eased. I have mood swings, the odd night sweat, the odd hot flush, red burny stingy cheeks in cold weather and temp changes, horrid anxiety, irritated bladder and irritated Urethra.

I wondered when others have come off hrt how long it took for things to even. I’m v sensitive to hormone shifts but it feels like a lot of these things are due to the drop in oestrogen and I’m wondering how long it will take for my normal oestrogen levels (pre hrt) to just settle. They weren’t majorly low to begin with so there must still be some there!!  ::)

Any guidance would be greatly appreciated. I suppose I just want some hope xxx

Hi Scampidoodle, it's hard to say because every person has different metabolic rates and estradiol can have some long lasting effects depending on the specific tissue. Blood levels normally return to pre-treatment levels in about 76 hours, but long lasting effects might take 3 months to stop completely. If you are entering peri-menopause, things will become quite erratic oestrogen wise so be prepared for the rollercoaster.

Thankyou for replying. I appreciate your help and have some hope that, at least by three months in, things may have settled to what they were before. Wasn’t brill then but better than this!X

You're welcome. Maybe a combined contraceptive pill would be more useful than HRT at this point? I mean, if your symptoms get worse. The low doses of HRT are not always enough to override your own hormones during early peri-menopause. On the other hand, if you have histamine issues, maybe it's better to address this with a low histamine diet? Anti-histamine meds can cause mucosal dryness which is already an issue during peri and menopause, so I wouldn't rely on them. Keep us posted.

Thankyou. I did take antihistamines for a couple of days recently then thought it’s probably better to lower the histamine through diet or my body would never get used to processing histamine itself.

The gel really helped emotionally once I got used to it going from half a pump up to two. The plan was to go to four like you say to over ride my cycle but my body would never have tolerated that.

So will carry on with the low histamine diet and try and be patient and not get too down whilst my body adjusts back to my normal levels of hormones.

Migraine today and just exhausted. The odd hot flush and my cheeks are so reactive to heat changes and go red and sensitive. . I didn’t have this pre the reductions  :'(

Sorry to hear that. Migraines are awful 😔 Did you have any symptoms of heat intolerance before using estradiol gel?

No nothing at all. The symptoms have only come on after going up to 3 pumps then upon coming down in dose and since being off it completely. I’m feeling the cold again which is weirdly nice but still getting the odd hot flush and my cheeks are suffering with reactivity x
