Small fibroid - appt. with GP tomorrow
« on: September 01, 2020, 08:26:00 PM »

Hi ladies.  Just wanted a bit of advice before appt with GP tomorrow.  Long story short....had stomach and internal scan couple of months ago.  Small fibroid found and couple of polyps on gallbladder.  GP phoned and said I should come off HRT as fibroids are fed by oestrogen.  I said I didn’t want to stop as it’s taken me nearly 3 years to find one that suits me. I’m on ultra low dose Femoston conti and take it every other day to try to manage symptoms without too many side effects.  She said she would write to gynae to get their view.  I have a follow up call tomorrow.  Obviously I don’t know what she’s going to say but my view remains the same....I don’t want to come off HRT.  I’m 66 and have no unusual bleeding or pain from the fibroid.

Do you think I’ve got a valid case for staying on HRT or should I do as she says and stop?

Thanks.

You certainly don't need to come off HRT for that. I am on the same HRT as you & have been for many years. I take 1/2 a tablet a day.
I have had several fibroids & polyps over the past 5 years or so & all removed by hysteroscopy.
My GP has never suggested I come off HRT & if they did I'd stress that they would then have to deal with my anxiety & stress, hot flushes, aches & pains, moods, dry skin & itching + loads of other things.
Stay calm but be firm with your doctor. Explain how much better you feel with your HRT regime & stress that it is a very low dose HRT that you are on.
Good luck Rosie63 & let us know how you get on.

Dr Newson’s article on fibroids and HRT might help you. X

I recently had alot of bleeding so was sent for tests. They showed a slightly thickened edometrium liningl 5mm and a fibroid. The gynaecologist was not at all concerned about the fibroid and did not mention coming off HRT. She said it was harmless thickened muscle.

Thanks all for your replies ladies.  I had the call with my GP and I didn’t have the fight I thought I would have, thankfully ! The gynae said I was fine to stay on HRT and they’re not going to do anything about the fibroid as it’s very small and not causing me any problems at the moment so all’s good 😊

Wishing you all well and thanks again for your support.

Hello Rosie 63.

Good news indeed. I had a small fibroid before I started HRT and was told it wasn't a problem. After six years of  taking HRT I had a hysteroscopy and the fibroid had gone!

Take care.
