Well I've finally managed to get an appointment to talk about HRT. Had enough now, too many symptoms have intensified these last few months and I'm heading back to work next week. Want to be able to feel more in control.
I'm currently taking microgygnon to help with peri symptoms. Would ideally want to stay on this for birth control.
Question is can I stay on it and still take HRT tablet form? Don't want the mirena, don't get on with other birth control. Just wanted a heads up as to what I should be asking doc in my appt tomorrow.

Hi yes you can, but you’ll still need progesterone in the HRT. X

Dotty, isn't the progestin in Microgynon strong enough? In the Netherlands specialists sometimes prescribe estradiol patch or tablet alongside birth control pil without additional progesterone.

I am no expert but I think you would be lucky to get anyone is going to prescribe hrt with oestrogen (estrodiol) alongside the ethinylestradiol in microgynon because they are very hung up on the stroke risk of the combined pill, especially as you get older.

mirena would give you the same progestogen and transdermal oestrogen would be safer and hopefully reduce the bleeding issues of progestogen only methods of birth control as well as meno symptoms.

I get the problems with mirena though, as I refused it.

I was taken off the combined pill at 49 (had had meno type symptoms on it for about 3 years), and after a short and unpleasant time on cerazette, followed by nothing, went onto hrt tablets.  Just used condoms until I could stand them no longer and ditched birth control.

Hi sorry I didn’t realise microgynon is a combined pill. In that case I agree with dahliagirl .

You can take the mini pill / progesterone only pill with hrt.

Alicess.....there isn’t enough progesterone in the mini pill for hrt, you would need to use another progesterone alongside it. X

Thank you, Dotty, I understand. Cerazette, progesterone-only, contains 0,075 mg Desogestrel while birth control pills with ethinylestradiol  contain 0,15 mg Desogestrel. So double the strenght of Cerazette.

After lengthy discussion with my doctor thi morning she has agreed to trial me on Desogesterol and Femoston.
So I'm guessing that may mean cerazette? Was in that before and it didn't agree with me, but maybe it'll be different now

Cerezette is certainly desogesteral. I like cerazette, but I need estrogen too, so I stopped cerazette.

As I understand it cerazette is not licenced for hrt... So maybe you are being allowed to go off licence??? I'd have loved to stay on cerazette and try some estrogen to top up.....
