Possible perimenopause help
« on: August 16, 2020, 09:46:31 AM »

Hello everyone

I am 46 years old and I am hoping someone will be able to offer me some advice. I am sure I’ve had hormonal problems for a little while.  The major issues started in march I suffered a great shock when my mum took seriously Ill and I have really suffered ever since 😢.  I started to experience pains random pains like ribs, side, kidney both sides random on and off. Had urine, bloods and even renal/pelvic ultrasound all clear.  The pains subside for a while and are very random.  Also my periods have gone from 31 days to 25 to 28 etc they have been extremely heavy for the last few years i always have to check my chair etc when I get up because it could be soaked in blood 🙄. Now they seem to be lighter lasting 2/3 days,  I also have a light bleed on day 10 which doctor said if it was same day every month prob a hormone imbalance have had this for long time.
Now I have developed bad acid reflux and nausea which can occur anytime even nighttime, night sweats with sometimes extreme chills after, waking at 530 every morning with stomach churning anxiousness, inside trembling, Sinus problems in the morning and fizzy legs.  Also feeling like need to go to toilet more often and have some dryness and now thrush 😢. I am also getting tired spells and thick head feeling and dizzy spells around period time.
I had to go to A&E last week as my heart was racing so bad I thought I was dying it was really high, while there I developed tingling all over and some numbness of my hands I actually thought I was on my way out 😕.  ECG and echogram done and heart structurally perfect the doctor said my heart rate was just very fast and tingling/numbness etc could have been anxiety as it was both sides of my body. While at hospital I went to bathroom and on day 9 I was having a bleed then wondered if it was connected.
So all these symptoms annoy me regularly, all my bloods Including hormonal are normal apart from Vit D, which I am taking supplements for. I also have Hashimotos and on thyroxine I get this regularly checked and levels are ok.
Sorry for the long post feel like running away or just staying in bed 😕😕
Thanks for any advice.

Hi Cara
Sorry you're feeling so rubbish.
Sounds like peri to me, I had very similar symptoms. Especially relate to the urge to either run away or stay in bed. I did both at varying times! HRT has helped reduce a lot of my symptoms or at least make them manageable. This site is brilliant and loads of people on here have excellent advice and experience so you've come to the right place. I think I actually would have lost the plot completely without it.

Hormones  - The Change - does what it says on the tin  >:(   ::)

Some find it useful to keep a mood/food/symtpom diary to chart progress.

As oestrogen levels drop muscles may become lax = aches and pains.  Also acid reflux/hiatus hernia is common due to the spincter allowing acid back into the gullet [I think], I have had burning acid reflux intermittently for years.  Rennies and Milk of Magnesia help and the GP has prescribed medication to ease the associated cough.

Also the body may become dry: inside and out  :o : skin, deep in the ears, nostrils, scalp, vagina ..... browse round.  Make notes ;-).

Be kind to yourself!

Hi,

This sounds like peri menopause symptoms to me as well. I had some bad spells of what became to be clear later to be anxiety, nausea, dizziness, and more recently a spell of axis reflux (never had any such issues before when my periods started to become erratic and with longer gaps over two years ago). All I was expecting from menopause were some hot flushes but not all this extra stuff. I also had tingling arms, legs, hot flushes and chills but luckily hot flushes have subsided mostly. The right combination of and dose of HRT can help. Whilst I am progesterone intolerant I am giving HRT patches another go right now since low mood and insomnia with heart palpitations do seem to linger. The most important thing is to find a combination of treatment that works for anyone individually be it HRT or other. Exercise helps in general as well but this can be a challenge at times with fatigue and exhaustion. Things can improve though. AG

Forgot to add: the waking up early in the morning is also very familiar with anxiety, and I think it may be cortisol surges (as when hormones drop the cushioning effect of them to keep reactions to stress etc in check is diminished). I hahve had phases where the smallest thing could make me very stressed. Some of this is still the case but got a bit better. Again, a low dose of HRT (and/or time) is likely to make this better but it is very uncomfortable. AG

Hi Cara, I'm new to this forum and I don't have much experience.
I'm 47 years old, for 1 year I had very heavy periods, until this month that I have had a light period but I used a tampon and a pad together, I hated having to go out because I needed to be near to a toilet. I understand perfectly about check the chairs (and the bed every morning), once, I had soaked the jeans... in a shopping centre!!  :-\  :'(
I'm sorry that you feel so bad, you will find support and advice from a lot of people in this forum, they're fantastic :)
