Switching HRT
« on: July 13, 2020, 01:25:56 PM »

Hi all

After a lot of faffing around with doses I finally settled on my HRT and have been doing well on Femoston 2/10 (stable for 6 months), as part of the faffing process I had to come off the mini pill in December, although careful I was finding the stress of worrying about an unwanted pregnancy too much so last Thursday I had a Mirena fitted. All went well and although I had to have it done at the hospital I feel I've made the right decision.

I now need to switch over onto estrogen only HRT and I don't even know where to start knowing what to ask for. I have extremely sensitive skin and don't want gels or patches. I know there were shortages but not sure if this is still an issue. Has anyone made this switch?  I'm assuming I should ask for a medium dose tablet as I was on the higher dose of Femoston, does that sound right? Will it be a case of having to take whatever is available, will I even have a choice?

Help!

Hi JCH187

I would suggest yes going for another 2 mg tablet oestrogen if the Femoston suited you. They're all listed here: https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/treatafter.php . Looks like there is a choice of three - Bedol, Elleste or Zumenon which all contain pure estradiol. I would find out which ones your local pharmacy generally has in stock or can get hold of, and go for that one.

Good luck :)
