The birds are deafening here too but it's beautiful, I love hearing them singing their little hearts out 🥰

For the last ten days I've been struggling to identify a strange bird call in the garden. I knew I hadn't heard it before. Finally, today, I found it high up in the jasmine (which has scrambled to the top of our 'big tree') and it's a Java Sparrow/Finch. So pretty and obviously an escapee

8). hopefully the sparrow hawk isn't around  :o

Wonder if they are seed eaters or if they prefer meal worms?

They have a diet which is 50% seeds and 50% fruit and vegetables apparently. The hardest thing for them is being separated from a flock

Can anyone know if a " cage " or real can be used to try to lure it in maybe? Not quite the same thing but the rspca once have us a cat trap, as old neighbours kindly moved and left their cats behind. We did get the little things .

Or maybe a Facebook appeal in case anyone has lost it and may be able to get it back?? 🐦

FB first I would think.  It may be that an aviary has blown over in bad weather ......... local radio.

I've put it up on local FB pages but no response so far. I guess if you have a large flock you might not miss one.

Well... It's been with you for a week so far, so must be feeding ok. But a flock bird, sad..Will be ok in the good weather yes, but I'd  just hope there is a small chance it can be recaptured.  I worry when we don't see ' our ' usual individual birds in the garden, then me or husband squeal excitedly when Hoppy the pigeon or the scruffy robin reappear... Guess you are either a total animal lover or not😍

Wish your little Java well.

I've not seen him drinking but he does visit the feeders. The sparrows hate him but he has tagged along with the oldfinches who seem to tolerate him or her.

So sad when this happens. I lost a young starling yesterday after he hit our patio door. I put him in the box in the garage , covered him up but he didn't recover. You can get bird silhouette decals to put on windows which breaks up the reflection and is also supposed to deter birds from flying that way for fear of predation. They are on Amazon and eBay.
