Oh C.C. - I kill 🐀 and flies 🪰 - as they carry diseases: having been through treatment for various illnesses I tend to avoid swatting much else.  I can run faster.  Usually  ;D.  Earwings know which flowers to hide in too ..........  ::)

Every 🐜, 🐞 has a place on the Earth.  Deep down or on the surface.  We don't like some critters due to our memory still being in the Cave!  Most have the ability to make us jump  ::)

As for fleas, they have an interesting Life Cycle  ;)

Some of the blossoms on my mystery melon are shriveling up and falling off. What does that mean? They're not being pollinated? I noticed small ants inside the new blossoms rummaging around.

Caught a chipmunk in my potted hibiscus, digging and having a good old time. He was eating spent blossoms. ;D

Probably means that they have been fertislied.  Now look behind the flower for a bulbous fruit?  It will be small yet.  Ants will take sweet nectar too.

Found a broken egg in the garden today, picked it up and there was a baby bird inside  :'( not nearly ready for hatching but was fully formed,no nest nearby, the egg was a bit smaller than a hen egg and was white,it was dropped right by our goats fence

Pigeon.  It may be that the parent was flying off with it but dropped it.  Pigeons lay all year round.  Was it feathered?

I think squirrels might be predators of birds nests, but not sure. Taz will know 🙂.

Yes you're right JP. Squirrels and all of the covids take eggs. It could also have been an egg which failed to hatch and the parent birds would drop it away from the nest to deter predators.

Covid; grey squirrels; pine martins; rats all prey on nests if they are able to reach.  It is likely 2 B as Taz suggests.  Nature.

So one of the mystery melons has started to grow.  It's about the size of a golf ball, yellow with pale yellow stripes...I'm thinking a watermelon?  Don't know cuz I've never grown one lol.  The critters are leaving it alone thankfully.
