A lot of problems were that cat and dog treatments affect pets in different ways, cats were dying because owners were using dog treatments  :-\.  My dog was blonde so I could see fleas and ticks as they appeared.  The place she got ticks from was the Lake District, never anywhere else.  They live in the bracken, having fallen off deer and sheep ....... once they feed they swell into a grey/blue blob - a bit of meths worked  ;)

Tick bites on humans can cause ?  :-\ ? Disease, I want to say Weills but that's rates, oh Lyme ....... which many GP don't recognise.  A rash sometimes or a red blot which has a ring round it, then 'flu like symptoms.

Fleas: I could write a book  ;D

We have a pair of blackbirds feeding young, every time I go outdoors they are close by, chirping that 'feed me now' sound  :-*.  Does anyone think it's early to have a nest of young?  Two hogs here very evening .....

I heard a wren briefly earlier [as I was on the way to the dentist  ;)] but haven't seen her yet.  Spawn in abundance.

A few years ago we used to have House Martins, but not recently.

Now we have Blackbirds, starlings, sparrows and bluetits nestling mostly.

Same here re the house martins but every year they were flying round the village so we bought and put up some martin next boxes and they came back - so we bought a couple more last year and they were occupied too - we had nests numbers 1-4 all feeding young! Very exciting!

If you have them in the area then they should  use the nests.

You need to clean them out each year - or rather it helps them out so they don;t have to do it!

When we moved here over 25 years ago every house in the street had house martins which gradually stopped nesting here until the mid-1990s they were gone.  Same with bats, they left about 2001.  I used to sit out one evening every year and count them out of our eaves.  Then, gone.  The orchard opposite was grubbed out for housing  >:(

Netting used to prevent birds from settling in trees and hedges has been stolen from a water company.

Hafren Dyfrdwy installed the netting at its site in Llangollen, Denbighshire, as it looks to build a new reservoir.

A spokeswoman said it consulted with environmental consultants regarding carrying out the "vital" work.
It is an offence to destroy an active nest, but there are no laws to prevent the installation of nets to stop birds nesting in the first place.

The spokeswoman added: "We're disappointed to say that around 10 days ago, the netting was stolen.

"As we are confident that this is good practice, to protect the local wildlife when we remove (and then replace) a part of the hedging, we will be replacing the netting as soon as possible.

YIPPEE! keep stealing it ........ let the birds nest!  We have all these grants to protect birds, re-introduce the red kite etc., to me these nets are madness  >:(

I swear the wildlife have had some miracle gro round here as there's a hare that we thought was a muntjac till we realised it was really furry too it's huge, wouldnt want to meet that on the pathway as it would confuse the hell out of the dogs x

;D I love it when I spot a hare especially as they are having such a hard time. They can get pretty large. Have you seen others?
