...still forked though even if less deeply so.... according to what it says on the web anyway :)

I see buzzards almost every day here and what  struck me about the kite I saw fairly close (OK OK just the one!!) was that its tail was long compared to short stubby buzzard tail and I know even with variations of forkiness it would be unmistakeable to me - except perhaps at great height when you just see a dot!

The tails are pretty distinctive.
They've got straight edges and angles rather than curves.

A couple of weeks ago Himself and I almost came to blows in a garden centre  ;D - I wanted to buy a pot of hyacinths from the cheap stand but he told me quite firmly that 1 was broken and certainly wouldn't flower.  However: I could see that there is a tiny piece still attached to the bulb and hey presto! on Sat. evening it started to flower, 2 days before it's more secure bulb-mates  ;D.

They smell lovely today in the porch in warm sunshine and Himself keeps muttering "I didn't think it would open up as much as that" …….. so  :na:  DH I had female intuition  ;)

I could have given him a  :kick: ……… the bulbs will go into the garden eventually along with the others which are now beginning to flower.  I rarely query what he's buying  >:(  :-X

On the Red Kite topic... as I was driving back home from Leeds today, I drove under a Red Kite and I saw a Barn Owl further along the A64 single carriageway section, bringing my Barn Owl tally for the day to three. Lucky me.

Today I have been thrilled to watch a robin collecting leaves and bracken from my pond steps and take it all into the huge Ivy which is growing on the fence. I hope it is making a nest!
Can anyone tell me if this would be the male or female and why only one bird doing all the work ( guess it must be the female then ::) )
Any other info would be great. I absolutely love these gorgeous little birds!

It will be the female purplenanny. You can read more about Robins nesting habits here http://www.rspb.org.uk/discoverandenjoynature/discoverandlearn/birdguide/name/r/robin/nesting.aspx

Don't let her know she's been spotted!!

That reminds me of when Himself and I were cycling through the Fen at night.  There was a mist sitting above the drain and out of the mist came a barn owl  :o     â€¦â€¦â€¦    I JUMPED and can remember the feeling to this very day!  It flew along side me (Himself was on the other side of me) for a while, watching me …….

Apart from scaring the living daylights out of you, what a wonderful experience - being used by the owl to flush out prey. I used to wonder why they flew alongside my car until I asked an owl handler one day and that's what they are doing when they fly beside you. Very clever.

I've been trying to buy an almond tree.  They are as rare as hens' teeth  :o  >:( …….

Been taking apart plant pots, weeding and replacing.  Found some statues that I forgot were in the garden so have moved them forwards a bit.  Sunshine is lovely, makes the screen a bit glarey though  ::)
