Squirrel slippers? I love my visiting squirrels but you do have to make sure you have no loose or missing roof tiles!

Yep - squirrel slippers …….. [fried or boiled  ;) ] - tree rats  :-X

We have 3 racing round the trees most days, I don't think that they can reach any of the feeders at the moment but they use up energy trying  ::)

We had a flock of very noisy long-tailed tits go through mid-morning, high up in a tree - about 20 feet up, they didn't come into the garden ……

When we lived in Wales we had a pair of nuthatches which visited our bird table every morning until a very cold spell, then we didn't see them again  :'(.  We lived on the snow line backing onto a forest …….. we have tree creepers in the woods close to us where we live now.  Like little mice going up and down.

Yes please Taz  ;D

Yesterday there were at least 3 woodpeckers* around the feeders and close trees.
The reason I say 3 is because that is the number I could definitely see at one time.
There may well have been more..........

The woodpeckers are lovely.
One ended upon the ground as a chick having been abandoned by it's mum, we think it flew into a window.
First we knew when we saw this high speed woodpecker chick hurtling along the ground.
We called the RSPCA, needless to say said chick disappeared.
As RSPCA man was leaving he saw something in his side mirror, the chick was chasing the van.
Chick was gathered up by RSPCA man and OH.
RSPCA had chick for a few days then it came back.
Whereupon it did the decent thing and flew into a tree, until 5 the next morning when it was hammering on our bedroom window  ::)
After that it seems to have done ok for itself.

It survived ?

1 goldfinch on the feeder this morning in heavy drizzle
5 male blackbirds fighting yesterday
1 female following me round for meal worms  ::)

Yes the woodpecker survived.
We can identify it as it has a funny left eye.
Oh and it's the only woodpecker that will tolerate another bird on the same feeder as it.
Only one mind you   ::)

The pied wagtail is being a dog in a manger over the meal worm container, he/she can't get in so hops at the smaller birds who try to do so; they are getting used to him/her now and nip in when it's back is turned  ::)

Dark now.  Expect the feeders will need refilling once I'm out of bed in the morning.

Anyone feeling low might like to look at Ark Wildlife [they sell bird food etc.] as well as running a monthly photographic competition.  Worth a few moments, lifts my spirits anyway.

Live meal worms have arrived so will be re-filling feeders this afternoon!

I counted at least 15 goldfinches on our apple tree today, as well as several blue tits going up and down the trunk.....I think the mild weather has brought out a lot of insects.....It was a nice sight to see  :)

Hey there birdy girls!

If you haven't already done so - why not sign-up for the RSPB Big Garden Bird Watch 2016!!! It's this weekend! My husband has done it for years - he sits up in our orchard in the cold. I decided to join in last year but watch the bird table and feeders in our small front garden from the bedroom window which has a great view -  and so stay in the warm and dry. ::) It's sufficiently far away from the orchard to count separately :)

1 year I did it but not a bird in sight  >:( - that was in the years when I was buying 3 large sacks of peanuts between Sept. and March, now I buy 1 and a half for the same time.   :-\
