We take ours to our community garden unless they are broken. They are always welcomed there.

We have lots of bats in our roof too! At least two species - Pippistrelle and Long-eared I think.

I always have house martins nesting on my house and this year they're on their second brood.  I suppose it won't be long before they're off to Africa again.

anybody noticed how many blackberries there are?  Just back from my afternoon walk and the hedgerows here are groaning with them.  I'll take a plastic box tomorrow.

Thanks Taz - missed your Link ……….

Our thornless blackberries have lots of fruit but oh so sour  :-X

You are welcome Prajna - we like to listen to Simon King at Bird Fair where he has a stand as well as doing talks - he asks for a question from the crowd and weaves his story into it

Do you have visits from the local bat group? Ours is quite active and likes to visit roosts. I haven't got any in my roof space as far as I know although there are lots of them around especially some of the larger ones (can't think of the name) which actually land on the buddleiah to catch the moths. Great to watch.

Bat droppings look like mice droppings which is how we found out they were visiting our eaves in the Summer - mice couldn't have got where the pooh was!

No we haven't Taz - I think we notifed them years ago - I seem to remember. We just keep track of them. My husband doesn't want people to come round but I'm the one that's a member of the wildlife trust so perhaps I'll tell them anyway! ::)

Prajna - when we were on holiday in July/August the bird food all ran out and the feeders were deserted on our return - but it didn't take them long to find the food - especially the massive flock of sparrows - about 25-30 of the noisy squabbling birds!!

The bat people don't have to visit, we used to sit out twice a year in the warm months and do a count - bats out, never woke up early enough to see them back in  ;D

Right now I'm sitting in the sun which is burning my neck  ::) - I have ice plants in flower and can hear/see honey bees all over the flowers, not as many as in other years but the flowers are attracting the insects  :-*

I love day-lilies but our garden isn't large enough …….. we haven't had house martins for over 25 years.  My ice plants are pale pink or a deep dusky red, I did have a variegated leaf but that didn't last the Winter.

Crikey: a 33 foot deep sink hole has appeared in St. Albans and 20+ houses have been evacuated  :o ….. what about the aquarium fish tanks, there's no leccy or gas.  What about the cat that stays out for a few nights and comes home to an empty house  :'( ….. what about ………..

Woodpecker (greater spotted) turned up on the nuts yesterday.
Surprised it took so long, the blue tits have been here as soon as we started putting nuts out again.
