No parrots here!
I only feed peanuts at the moment, but we have lots of birds and a feisty nuthatch is making its presence known recently. I think our sparrowhawk whizzed through earlier because all the little birds flew off and hid in a great flurry. Apparently DBH saw a treecreeper on our big sycamore this morning. We've been here just over two years and that's the first one.  :)

Sorry  ::)  South Northants.
Surrounded by fields and woodland.  Hedgerows.  Grassy banks and verges.  Lots of places for wild birds to feed during the warmer months.  They will return once the weather gets colder but it hasn't: yet.

I too am surrounded by farmland, hedges and tiny lanes but the birds still stay. Reckon they are too lazy to forage for themselves!!

Birds now back in force at the feeder.
6 Blue tits, 1 great tit and a coaltit when I last looked.
Yesterday the Woodpecker and Nuthatches were there, not at the same time. The Nuthatches chase everything away, but even they give way to the woodpecker.

It was lovely to hear the Fieldfares in our orchard today, chattering away as they ate the fallen apples. The sound is so evocative of autumn and the cold weather.

The latest rescue and release by HART Wildlife. This is a Kingfisher which was found by the side of the road in the middle of Reading town centre on Tuesday. She was taken by a passer-by to the police station as they were not sure where else to take her. From there she was taken to a vets where they tried to feed her grain! Luckily HART Wildlife were contacted and after a couple of days recovering on a diet of fish she was ready for release on the river Itchen today https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?v=586636358058711&set=vb.116648618390823&type=2&theater

How lovely Taz. I have never seen one in the wild as we really don't get them up here.

Shame on the vets trying to feed her grain.....makes you wonder. ::)

WHAT! ...............  :cuss:  it's like when I took in an orange coloured mole, the Vet I spoke too wondered if it had cross bred with a hamster  :bang: :bang: :bang: ....... needless to say, I NEVER took my pets to her.

Cold.  A few birds around the nut feeders.  Occasionally taking live meal worms.  Not a lot else yet.

A quick round-up of the year from HART Wildlife Rescue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4PAZGCcAf7w&feature=youtu.be&a

I haven't posted this because of the "please donate" message at the end by the way but just to show what great work they do.

You can have some of mine if you like! They visit all year round - usually thirty plus. Only fifteen at the minute though fighting it out with the greenfinches. They are so NOISY!

Mine feed on sunflower hearts (their beaks are not strong enough to strip off the outer layer from the black or black and white sunflower seeds) or niger seed which needs to be fed in a special feeder as the seeds are so small they fall out otherwise.

It took around three weeks twenty years ago for mine to be visited but once here they stayed. It is expensive though - I get through around three kilos a week of the hearts and they are also messy because once they fall to the ground they start to decay.

If you want to feed them then you need to be patient as it takes a while for them to approach a new feeder sometimes.

Gold finches come and go as to long tailed tits.  There are fewer birds every year, hopefully because more people are putting out feeders.

It's interesting how it varies from area to area and garden to garden. Our finches stay for all of the year but population does fluctuate. We had fewer Siskins last year so I am waiting to see how many turn up this January. They are only on the feeders from January to March. We haven't had a wagtail yet which is unusual but then the weather has been so mild. The long tailed tits visit for ten minutes in the morning on their way to work and then again on their way home at around 3.30  ;D
