They do so love the apples don't they and I find that the redwings and thrushes love the pears - especially if they have gone a bit mushy.

We have had siskins since the end of october which is really early for us as they don't usually descend until January.

Frost on the car this morning. Heavy snow showers on the way back from Suffolk last night. I am focusing on the positive - I still have 20 days left of it being officially Winter ;D

It may be time for me to post the Spring Poem again though.

Well done CLKD - of course none of this makes any sense to me as I am not a gardener but I am sure you had fun!

Rowan - thank you - that's wonderful. My best present was a years subscription to the Amateur Entomologist Society - I know that it sounds strange but I really do have a great interest in insects. My eldest son bought it for me. Some amazing bugs out there!

I have a type of hunting spider who lurks under the skirting board in the downstairs loo. He waits patiently until one of my silver fishes nonchalantly passes by and then...... pounces.  Lots of spider facts here if anyone is not too scared  :)  http://www.bbc.co.uk/nature/uk/indepth/spider-facts.shtml

Nothing to see outside except SNOW  :o

"Wild fox bites off finger of baby" ?   :-\  ........ is this a 1st April scam?  Unless this family have been feeding the fox and it is used to them, usually even town critters will run rather than be close to humans.

Children have been attacked before.

Perhaps urban foxes are getting bolder.

Lately urban foxes have been entering houses if the doors are left open. Foxes are curious and so a wriggly baby might be tempting. We have one that sits on our front doorstep some nights. It meanders off if we open the door but isn't worried. I get really annoyed when people say that foxes should "return to the countryside" when a few years ago what is now their smart housing estate was the foxes countryside.

Can I talk about plants on here?
It was a lovely spring sunny afternoon here in SW England and we were carrying down logs (from laying the hedge) from the top of the orchard.  Birds all singing spring songs. We usually clear the brambles at the top and carefully look for our early purple orchid which we have been nurturing for years. We found the usual plant with its purple spotted leaves just showing through. My husband marked the plant with a stick to make sure we don't cut it or tread on it, and to my excitement I found 5 other plants just starting to grow scattered around the area - so we now have a small colony of them - first time ever there has been more than one!

Fantastic news - all that nurturing has paid off then.
