daft question  ::) ... when you feed mealworms where do you put them? I have a pole with a fatball feeder, and dish (i use for water), and on the 3rd hanger I have a coconut shell with suet and seeds in. I'd love to use mealworms if that would bring more birds to my garden. Do I need a bird table for them?

I use live meal worms and they wriggle out of every container I've ever tried  ::) - currently the birds ignore the dried sort because they need the liquid in the meat to nourish the young birds.

Thanks CLKD ... I need to think if I want them wriggling around first. WHere do you store live ones. We don't have  lot of storage space. Ours is a small garden, no shed

2kg of worms doesn't take up much space and lots of companies sell them but many get them from the same source  ::)

They do need feeding though !

Interesting article here about how farmers have had great success over only three years in building up the small bird population http://www.express.co.uk/ourcomments/view/332592/John-Ingham

He wont put them off mrs purple. I must admit the pigeons only go for the seed in my garden. It might be a different one of course - there could be a breeding pair swapping over nest duties. There is no easy way of telling a male and female pigeon apart.  Although it looks morbidly obese if it is a wood pigeon it is amazing how much of the bird is feathers. They are so light but they have more feathers per square inch than any other british bird. You will have noticed this when one gets hit by a car - the feathers go on for miles or so it seems!

The pigeons on our little balcony are feral. Still like them and their dedication to their young. Haven't seen the baby or babies yet (there were 2 eggs) as mum is always sitting on them, but saw wriggling under her. I have to open the window and stick my head out to see them.

Another bird which I don't know the name of, is in the garden. Plain, mid-brown, bigger than a blackbird or starling, with black tail feathers with a fleck of white amid the black too. Looked it up and on google images could only find a linnet but it's bigger I think.
