Well we were interested     

It died.  Spent nearly 3 days 'drying' off but something sucked the guts out of it in the night, mouse probably  ........ Himself took some good 'photos though!

As for the quail

It must have been poorly already CLKD - they only take around three hours to emerge and another hour or so before flying off. Well, mine do.

Sorry CLKD, never had fear of slow worms or snakes, didn,t mean to scare you. I sitll have scare of eels. yuk.
We have bats flying around, which is great, the seemed to stopped visiting us over the last couple of years, but now are flying well into the late evening. Sorry I love these creatures and find them fasinating, I don't know where they can sleep or how I can help them, to stay and thrieve, or even to encourage them for finding a

 natural habitat where we live. But I love these little mammels and think they deserve some help

Hi Jenny - the bats will have a roost somewhere locally to you so don't worry about where they are sleeping as they will have that all sorted. If you are really interested then you could get in touch with your local bat group. They are often interested in sightings especially if bats are seen in an area where they are not aware that a roost exists. http://www.bats.org.uk/

This last week my garden has been awash with birds.

I've got a pigeon nesting high up in a hawthorn bush.  A blackbird nesting in the conifers. I added loads of well rotted horse manure to my tubs and troughs and birds are coming from all over the place to pick through it and throw it out again.

I swept up all around the house on Thursday afternoon and went round the back today and the birds have cleaned out my gutters for me  and thrown that all around too.

I had a few feeders with peanuts in which have hung there for month untouched - this last week they are really chomping through it.

We had a summer Pipestrelle roost for years, I used to sit on the patio wrapped in a blanket and count them 'out' of the eaves.  Fascinating.  Then they didn't return for 2 years  and we had the Soffits repaired.  Himself put up boxes but they haven't been back.

Wild strawberries growing under the hedgerow on one of our walks - enough for a toothfull at a time.

We grow wild strawberries in our garden ........ Yummy and one only needs about 5 for real flavour! 

Found 6 nymph 'shells' around the ponds and saw 3 more dragonflies emerging

When we were in Norfolk last week we saw an owl - first time properly for me. Early evening and it flew slowly up the verges while we watched. Must have been hunting. Wonderful.

Damn! It's dark now so I can't check what it's like here. Three hedgies roaming around the garden though so thanks CLKD for getting me off my bum and into the garden!

We've got baby ducks, mallards, think its 7.
Swans have not any young this year.

Announcement, after weeks of sitting on eggs I've finally hatched five bluebird babies.  I am guarding the nesting house against sparrows.  My OH looked in this am as Mom and Dad BBird seemed absent and all five were sleeping and the nest was totally orderly.  Each time they go to the box to feed the babes they take away any waste product.  Dad is staring at me as I write and mom is at the box.  The feeder is just beyond my bedroom window.  Back to my sentry duty.
