There was a wasp in the garden this afternoon. First one I've seen this year. Perhaps it was a queen that's come out of hibernation?  ???

Still no sign of the daffys or tulips though. Some years they've been in bloom in January but the shoots are barely 3" high at the moment.

Roll on spring! (sorry Taz  ;))

Ha ha - it's ok I am coming to terms with it now - it is something that seems to happen every year!

As for the wasp - yes it would have been a queen as all of the others have died during the winter - only the queen wasp survives.

I had a Lovebird in my garden all afternoon - no idea where it has come from and both of the local vets have not got a note of a missing one. It was very pretty and extremely noisy so that there were six cats all roaming around the bottom of the plum tree it had decided to sit on. I managed to gather all six cats up and get them into my house and the bird came down and feasted on the sunflower hearts. I hope it's not around tomorrow - it's such a worry!!

I put the first wasp out mid-January, that was a shock for her.  She was on the net curtains ......  the lovebird will keep out of the way, have you been on local radio to let people know it's in your garden?  We occasionally have escapees as there is a lady who rescues parrots etc., they fly and go usually  :-\

My Mum found a frog in her little utility room yesterday!  Lord knows how that got there.

I remember when we lived in Singapore, one time my mum went to the loo and as she was just going to sit down she just happened to glance round to look in the toilet bowl and there was a snake!! The armah had to get rid of it, it didn't seem to bother her.
Everytime I think of that it makes me cringe, even now I still make sure before I sit down on the loo LOL.

JOY OF JOYS!! gardening all afternoon.  Emptied the compost bin - first time I have ever made compost, and it smelt fab!!  bit of pruning and some tidying.  Sun shining, it makes all the difference in the world.

Oh composting: we have had composts in our family for over 100 years.  I put everything organic into ours: weeds, garden waste, shredded shrubs/woody bits, cardboard, egg cartons, loo/kit roll insides, all the used kitchen roll/tissues from around the house, chicken droppings and glaggy newspaper, egg shells ........ tea bags, coffee grounds ....... we run two 'bins', made with wooden slats, one is current the other rotting down.  Leaves go on at the start of a compost otherwise into a black sack until they have rotted down.  it is a huge satisfaction to me when I get to do the 'compost dance' to push it all down  ;D

I get my husband to do that CLKD - it looks much funnier!!  Mad man dancing in compost bin - as opposed to mad menopausal woman found head first in compost bin (knowing my sense of balance!!)

When treading compost, I hope you wear your Wellies - not to be confused with treading grapes for the wine though !!

Our weather forecast for today is SNOW !!!!   EEEKKK

That very cold wind has gone!  I've been outdoors for a couple of hours, pruning and tying in a very prickly shrub.  Then inside for a whole orange drink and now going to review.  Not what I had planned ........ but must get my dose of fresh air, it's as essential as my five a day  ;)

CLKD - Got our chickens - 2 white with black markings, 2 silver grey, 1 dark brown and 1 light brown.  It was suggested we keep them inside for 3 days but it's been so warm and humid in their little house today we left the door open and left them to it.  Only 2 ventured out as they've been used to being reared inside a shed but they will get used to it.  The dark brown one is so placid - she comes right up to us and eats out of our hand.  They are so cute......but when it started to cool down and the sun was going down, they made their way back inside the hen-coup
