How about a cycling club?  I'm sure you would find like-minded folks in your area?

Hotnbothered - those Pashley bikes are beautiful aren't they?

Have you thought about putting little notices in you local mag/shop window/cycle shop notice board saying something like

Lady bike-owner is looking for similar to go on local bike rides. Please ring ......

In our village mag a few months ago there was a similar one from a "retired but fit man" looking for cycling partner.

Sounds like a good idea CLKD - I haven't got one but I remember lots of people cycling when I lived there! Mind you, if you are going to the Woodbridge area it's not as flat as it's made out to be!

I last rode my bike mid-December - so am hoping to dust it off today and do a ride after lunch.  The sun is gorgeous here today but it is very cold.

I have all the thermal gear to go under my cycling stuff so I should be OK.  DS has been riding his bike every single day right through the winter.  Even in the snow and ice. ::)  He drives to work and back so his bike is purely for exercise.  He reckons it is brilliant cycling in the dark when there's snow and ice about.  I think it's considered an extreme sport! ;)

I have done LOADS of walking this winter though and time myself.  I have also been on a few walks with a local group which has made a change.  I am also quite happy walking by myself with my music in my ears though. :)  I find now that I feel really sluggish if I don't get my walk in each day.

Well done Penny - I must admit that I have been really bad at fitting my daily walk in lately. I just can't muster up the enthusiasm which is a shame because I love winter walking normally. You have made me determined to start again. I only do a brisk two mile walk which takes me just under 30 minutes. I know that to lose weight I really should walk for at least 40 minutes without a break but if I do that then after a couple of days the fibro kicks in and I have to stop. So I reckon a two mile one is at least good for heart and bones even if it wont shift a few pounds. If I go straight from work I am ok - it's the fact that I get in and then have a cup of tea and check my emails and on here and then the time just goes...

We've been to Salcey Forest this morning, very cold but bright blue sky.  Met a couple of people we haven't seen for several years, had a walk on the elephant path then back to the cafe for hot chocolate.  Hubby is now cleaning windows  ;) I'm trying to get him into the habit of 'what he will need to do when he retires'  :-*

Doesn't look like I'll be cycling this afto.  DH & DD went out on the horses and DH has just phoned to say they will be late because he got thrown off!  He's cut his hand open and aches all over and is still several miles from home.

Lunch was just about ready when he rang.  I will now get the dettol, cotton wool and massage gear ready!  He must be in agony because he's been full of aches & pains for a few days and if the horses weren't so desperate for some exercise, he wouldn't have considered riding today.  I feel really sorry for him and sorry for the lunch which will be past its best when we get to eat it. :(

Horses be dangerous critters  ::)  :P - as for Dettol  :sick02:  how is he this evening, hospital job?

We will be cycling eventually but I need to build up my stamina first.  Also I miss out on seeing the countryside 'cos I'm concentrating hard on keeping upright  :D

Thanks for asking CLKD.  He's tender but OK.  Few grazes and a cut hand but he's had a hot shower and a massage and maybe some bruising will come out tomorrow.  He and DD always wear body protectors thanks goodness.

I was just reading about your walk -  Very good :)  I did get out and managed 2.75 miles in 40 mins today. I use DHs sat nav walking thingy which he uses for endurance riding.  It's very accurate.

I want to buy a pair of those "Barefoot" trainers - have you seen them?  I wear walking boots at the mo and walking sandals in summer but fancy some in-betweenies.

Have you tried arnica for bruises?
Fell down the stairs many years ago (long stairs - ended up upside down at the bottom.) Took an arnica tablet and then had a soak in a bath with arnica bath stuff in it that night. No bruises at all the next day - wow!
