Help please
« on: June 10, 2020, 11:31:10 PM »

I'm 58 and not had a period for a year now. I'm steadily getting worse symptoms. The past two weeks I've had the most dreadful hot flushes and night sweats. In turn I've been so off balance in past four days. So much so I can't walk straight or function. I've just been sitting down doing nothing. My ears are messed up. So are my sinuses. I have no quality of life at the moment. I don't know what to do. I'm about to embark on hrt. I vowed never to, but I'm not functioning. So I see no alternative. Pls reassure me hrt is ok and I might start to feel human again. I'm so low , scared and miserable.

Hi I can reassure you that HRT is ok. Like you, I never wanted to take HRT but have now been using gel and Utrogestan for over 2 years.

Quality of life is important xxx

Just a note regarding your ears/sinuses. Please get these checked out with a nurse or G.P.

I was apprehensive about starting HRT, I was dead against it - however I did take it & although it didn't get me back to the way I was it did enable me to do my job, have a social life & get on with my life. It took several goes to get the correct regime but once I did it was ok, not perfect but bearable.

You have to make a choice.. If it's affecting your M.H. then maybe there are some other meds that may help you. Don't feel you have no other alternative. Be happy with your decision, don't be afraid of it.

Keep us posted & keep asking questions.

I would just echo previous responses.  I struggled for 2 years and my MH really suffered with the menopause symptoms.  I really didn't recognise myself at all.

I tried patches but due to shortages I swapped to gel and tabs.  I was very worried about the dangers of hrt but I totally agree that balance is needed and I dread to think how bad I may have felt.

I feel much better more balanced, the sweats have almost gone and my general well-being has improved.
It's sad some women are made to feel they have failed if they take hrt, it's your life, your wellbeing physical and psychological. You have the right to be well and happy without guilt.  I hope you feel better soon whatever you decide. Your not alone and I'm happy for you to message me anytime for support x big hugs

Another one here. Life was hardly worth living, probably not 100% back to normal but much, much better. Your loss of balance does sound more like an ear problem than meno though so I agree you need to see your gp about this.

Morning. Make a list of your symptoms and see your GP.  If necessary book a double slot.  Probably phone calls rather than face2face ? but you should be offered a full blood count to check for VitD levels, anaemia etc. and if your GP is up to date, advice about HRT.

What worries you about taking HRT?  Quality of Life is so important and it doesn't have to be for ever, though some ladies, finding that they feel well, continue into their late 70s with it.

Hello Kay21 and welcome to the forum.

I'm sorry to learn that you are feeling so unwell.

I also think that your balance issues could be due to something like Labyrinthitis. This is a common ear infection that many of us have had and I suggest you talk to your GP as soon as you can.

Take care and keep posting.

Feel for you love, its so difficult to get everything in balance.
I have now got low testosterone levels so going to add testosterone to hurt treatment.
We need more research into menopause.
Its hard work!! >:(
