oestrogel and sleep
« on: May 15, 2020, 04:41:11 AM »

I am 45 and peri menopausal, also got osteoporosis. last oestrogen levels 269 on 2.5 pumps so increased to 3 pumps estrogel, taking utro 100mg vaginally at night as feel lousy as prog intolerant. I take the estrogel at night too. I was on 2 pumps a few months ago. Since increasing the oestrogel I have noticed my sleep is much worse, waking about 4am and feeling a bit jittery. The sleep was a problem prior to starting HRT. I still get VA and have low libido and occ night sweats, joint aches and achy muscles. I will try the oestrogel in the morning instead. I did read someone else found it made them wake early. I do regular meditationa and yoga and eat well and no alcohol (which makes me sleep badly sadly!). I think my energy levels are slightly better with the oestrogen, just feel a bit wired. I seem to remember i felt like this when i started it but was told by HRT nurse that it wasnt due to the oestrogen. I will persist with it but any thoughts appreciated!

My oestrogen levels are far higher than yours, in excess of 1,000 pmol/L. I sleep like a baby. Don't even wake up during the night.

For me insomnia was a symptom of low oestrogen. I use it at night. Are you on cyclical or continuous utro? If conti perhaps try sequi. You should be on sequi anyway as you're peri but it will also show if the problem is only when you take prog.

I am on sequi. I have upped oestrogen to three pumps and see how I get on. My GP is happy to check levels so if needed I will go higher. I understand for osteoporosis it is better to be in excess of 300
Thanks

I have just had my oestrogen levels checked after increasing estrogel to 3 pumps daily (it was 269 on 2.5 pumps), and it's 140. Does that mean I am not absorbing it? Would also explain why I still have sweats, no libido, and don't really sleep! I emailed dr currie 10 days ago about my progesterone (I thought I was prog intolerant as I feel rubbish when I take it), I haven't heard back yet. She wouldn't know about this latest test.
Any thoughts?

I would increase to 4 pumps, it isn't unusual to need that amount. Can you send a follow up email with this information? It might alter her advice.
