terrible headaches with nausea and irritability
« on: May 01, 2020, 08:45:12 PM »

I am 57 and have not had a period for two years . I was on evorel conti patches for years but GP changed me to kliovance tablets (half a tablet once per day)  two months ago as patches were not available.
Initially i did not notice much change but now i am experiencing terrible headaches but worse i am constantly irritable.
I just cannot shake it off. i try meditation, exercise etc which helps a bit but i just feel terrible.
i am unhappily married which makes things worse as i cannot trust my judgements.
I am sensitive to noise and light now and cant even stand people talking.

today i contacted my Gp but all he did was email me and told me to take maximum dose of aspirin and paracetamol. he said i might have fluctuating hormones.
I am not sure if i should increase the kliovance but am worried that this might make it worse.
part of me also wants to try coming off HRT as i have not had a flush for a long time but again i am scared of making things worse at an already difficult time.
I dont feel that there is any point in contacting GP again.
has anyone else experienced this and resolved it ?
thank you

I think evorel is available again? Perhaps check with the pharmacist than change back.

thanks sheila for reply.
i did try to speak to pharmacist before coronavirus but they are so busy now it is embarrassing talking in front of everyone.
it feels like no one really cares. i wish that i could make a decision on my own but i find it really confusing trying to work out the different dosages between the tablets and patches. I am only taking half a tablet as i was frightened that they were a lot stronger than the patches.

Just call the pharmacy and ask about patches. No need to go in and openly discuss x

Hi Kliovance is the equivalent of Evorel Conti for dosage of oestrogen, although the delivery is different.

Am I right that you are only taking half a tablet every day? If so, you are only getting half the dose of oestrogen that your body was getting with the patches, which is likely to be the case of your symptoms x

Oh dear I am so confused. I thought that the tablets had double amount of estrogen and prog so I only take half a tablet. It is just so difficult speaking to my dr. He just emailed me to say I prob have migraines - first time at age 57- really. And just told me to take migraine medication or  max paracetamol and Aspirin. I feel he is not interested and I am having to google information . I emailed him asking to go back on patches but not sure that was right thing to do as only taking half a klovance a day. Have no flushed though 😁. Do you think The patches are better ?

Pebbles..sorry to confuse you even more, but I've just realised that I've got it wrong.

Kliovance has 1mg of oestrogen. Kliofem has 2mg of oestrogen.
So you are only taking 0.5mg a day.

Evorel Conti is a 50mg patch which is roughly equivalent to 2mg in tablet form.

So you have drastically cut your oestrogen. You need a 2mg tablet to be equal to the patch you were using.

Have a look at the bottom of the first page on this link. X

Put the product name into the search box on here, make notes.

Headaches can arrive with The Change.  HORMONES  >:(

Oh Pebbles that sounds awful for you. Headaches are just the worst!

Please don't give up contacting your GP, and if you don't get any joy with that GP is there another one in the practice that's a bit more "user-friendly?"  You're right, they are busy at the moment but that doesn't mean you should be left in pain when there could be a simple solution by upping your oestrogen again.

Sorry to hear you're feeling down with this and everything else - hope you can get things sorted soon x

I used to get terrible oestrogen withdrawal headaches during the week off on the combined pill, in the last couple of years.  It feels like your brain is loose, goes all through shoulders and teeth, can't move and it graduates to feeling very sick.

The only way to stop it was to drink water very regularly and take a nurophen plus (contains codeine) at first inkling.

I would ask for your patch to be reinstated.
