Its all we can do, watch other countries and see what happens.  The UK is different with London having a population bigger than some of the countries that have been affected.  I would like to see the percentage of the populations rather than just a total number who have the virus, it would be a better comparison i think.

I have seen charts with that sort of comparison and it certainly make our numbers look not so bad.

We have bigger and more crowded Cities.  This has never been a competition and is what it is. 

I wonder whether Sweden will be a different outcome.

Yes, our population is about 10 times bigger and so is the death rate, if the numbers are to be believed!!!

My son is a paramedic in a Maine USA and has yet to deal with anyone with the virus. He works in a rural area. it's a large, mainly rural state with a small population. They do have cases and some deaths in the main city and they have implemented lockdown etc. He has PPE and has to put it on for each call and has received further training to work in the ER, in case, but it sounds as if they will start relaxing things soon. Apparently they didn't implement social distancing and lockdown in South Dakota, another state with a smallish population, but now it's a hotspot, according to a pod cast DH was listening to.

deaths in Sweden are rising sharply.  Some doctors there are saying they have taken the wrong approach.

I think we have a pretty good idea how it will pan out, it's the same approach that ours scientific advisors took here in the early days. Their epidemic will get bigger just like ours did.

We need to look at Korea - they had less cases due to their actions which were ignored initially 

I think that there will be peaks and troughs for years to come, with or without a vaccine.

there are people dashing forwards to take part but it won't be me! after what happened a few years ago when people died .........  due to unexpected excessive reactions

I'm sure they'll find one, there are so many people working on it. The biggest problem is the time between lockdown ending and when it's available. A second wave during this time wouldn't be surprising.

Then it has to go before NICE? and if it proves expensive ..........

However much it costs it will be cheaper than lockdown. They said they're now paying for 50% of the population. That's unsustainable.

Probably not - but people must accept that taxes may well rise and that the current situation will be repaid for years to come.
