I think the usual idea for a scan is 5mm but am sure that others will be along to correct me  ;)

Why did you begin HRT?  Maybe jot down how you feel in general and keep a mood/food/symptom diary if you don't already?

What was the suggestion when you were having the scan?

There was mo suggedtion, said lining was normal..just feel 'uncomfortable' taking the hrt now as im alreasy well overweight so risk of thivkened lining increased due to holding onto oestrogen in fat cells..with extra ontop...how much am I getting..and is 100mgs utro enough to counteract effect?...I was asked to be put on it for depression and anxiety..no other physical symptoms xx

Hi Nettie3070

Here is the information on this site about fibroids:

https://www.menopausematters.co.uk/atoz.php#GlossF

"Fibroids
Fibroids are benign smooth muscle tumours of the uterine (womb) wall and are dependant on estrogen. They tend to shrink after the menopause but shrinkage may not occur, or they may even increase in size with HRT use. Increase is thought to occur in 25% of HRT users and mainly occurs in the first six months of therapy. There is some evidence that transdermal (patch or gel) but not tablet HRT nor tibolone may promote fibroid growth. [ref 24] Fibroid size can be monitored by regular examinations and sometimes by ultrasound scans. There is some evidence that the use of the progestogen releasing intra-uterine system, Mirena may cause fibroids to reduce in size. Mirena is often used in the perimenopause by women who have heavy periods
"

Sounds like a Mirena could be an option?

Also has the doc suggested any treatment to reduce the thickness of the lining. Fat cells do not store oestrogen but convert androgen precursors of oestrogen to estrone (if I recall correctly!). It comes to the same thing ie they increase the amount of estradiol circulating in the body ( estrone converts to estradiol but the details and location escape me at the moment!).

Are you able to do anything to start to reduce your weight if this is a problem? It will only be of benefit in the long run. Can you identify little steps to take re your diet, what you wat or exercise. I  know we are in difficult times but there are things you can do. Set yourself a goal during lockdown (having said that I've put on weight during lockdown!!)?

The last thing you want to do right now is to feel more anxious because you have stopped HRT especially in these difficult times but I can see you need to do something re the womb lining and your bleeding.

Let us know what you decide.

All the best :)

Hi Hurdity...thankyou for your reply as always💕

I sent Dr lewis from Newson health my scan results today. She said that the 9mm of smooth endometrium is normal for someone in peri-menopause. 4mm is for post menopause. I have been referred for a gynae appt re fitting a IUD as my Drs are not doing it at present due to covid. Thet may want to take a precautionary sample then or may not. She said to continue with the planned regime (4 pumps gel and utro) but I feel uncomfortable with this to be honest., so am trialling 1 pump to see if my anxiety/low mood is managed and daily utro.
I have already started to reduce my weight using healthy eating and daily walks for now...this has really scared me and It may be the kick up the backside I needed.
What do you think?..your input as is anyone is so much appreciated

Little steps.  Tnx for the update and pleased that Dr Newson has replied and is satisfied with your 9mm.

I love roasted veg..  DH is my cook  :-* - are you able to do batches of foods that you enjoy that will freeze?  When is your worst time for chocolate ?  ;).  Pancakes are good quick meal and the mix can keep in the fridge for several days of instant use.  Slow release foods such as bananas?  Brisk walking won't do any harm at all.

I have found over the years that if I rest once I've eaten my main meals, I often don't need a pudding which is my weakness  ;D.  A piece of very black chocolate will suffice.
