Anyone had to stop utrogestan because of bleeding
« on: April 22, 2020, 09:11:23 AM »

Hi All...my dr stopped my utrogestan in early feb for 7 days as I was bleeding heavily following a missed dose. This combined with Tranxemic acid stopped my bleed and after 7 days I restarted a continuous regime. Forward to 15 days ago when I missed a utrogestan then statred spotting.I went adhoc stopping starting and increasing my utro dose.too much googling mixed with meno anxiety Im afraid.Ive bled now for 15 days despite trans acid. Continued with utro on advice from GP. My question is..did the 7 day break restart my continuous regime so therefore the bleeding experienced in the first few months of a regime and has anyone not been able to tolerate utro due to probematic bleeding. I have a skype appt tomorrow with Dr Rebecca Lewis at Newson health to try and get this sorted but looking for some reassurace and peace if mind to get me through today..please help😢

Sorry I have no experience of it so no advice. Just wanted to say you'll be in good hands tomorrow so try to relax until you speak to her. Let us know what she says?

Hi there,

I do have some unusual bleeding on Utro. Last month I bled for days and days. It was really heavy too. I am on this month's Utro now and will see how it goes. I tend to have a couple of normal or no bleed months then a real whopping heavy bleed. I was scheduled for a hysteroscopy but that was cancelled with the lockdown.

Good luck and keep me posted. I think you need to see what happens over a few months.

Hi Nettie. How did you get on at your appointment? It sounds to me like you need a scan to check the womb lining. That's the only way to tell what's going on if you are post-menopausal. Even if you miss the utrogestan you shouldn't bleed if you are post-menopausal and the dose matches the oestrogen.  It could be that you need a higher dose of prog ( if you sre post-meno) or there may be some abnormailites. I hope the doc you spoke to suggested further investigation?

After only 7 days of stopping you should not start bleeding again unless there are issues either with lining thickness or eg a fibnroid or more or polyp of the common reasons.

Let us know how you got on?

Hi Hurdity

Well really good appt thanks..advised increading oedtrogen to 4 pumps daily, utro to alternate nights vaginally and then added testosterone..felt really positive. Then an evening phonecall saying ask GP to fast track you for ultrasound..Im so scared. I increased oestrogen an extra pump for 2 nights post phoncall and this morning bleeding redstarted.I am motionless with fear.I catastrophize everything so I am certain I have cancer I am stopping all hrt..I cant cope with the worry..I am beyond scared😢

I bled on utro had hysterocopy, upped utro, bleeding stopped.
Started again, reduced from 100mcg evorel to 75mcg evorel, as instructed by GP.
Bleeding started off and on again for months. I can't just stop it as its cross tolerant with valium and all hell would break loose, so I just saiid to heck with it and carried on with the intermittent bleeds.
Some clots and pelvic pain, bit old for this at 53.
I ran out of patches and due to hassle getting them, went over to gel bought online which is great but discharge started again so i reduced from 3 pumps to 2 pumps, night sweats started again but better than periods, but discharge still here, lets hope it goes and i settle on 2 pumps.

Hi nettie

I'm so sorry to hear that you've been having problems on Utrogestan, and that you are so worried.

I just wanted to tell you that I've had bleeding when I've missed a single dose, a few times.  The first time it happened I had an hysteroscopy, and they found that atrophy of the lining, which had caused some raw spots, and the Missed
dose had caused the bleeding.

It happened again about a year later and I had an us, which showed a thin lining,

Hopefully , this will offer you a little reassurance that the bleeding is not necessarily something sinister, although I was just like you,  very scared.

Take care

I know what you mean Avalon..its do hard when tbings dont go as youd hope..hormones seem to need to be  finely tuned in order to work right..any sort of imbalance has a major effect..hope it gets sorted xx

Do try not to worry. The most likely explanation is the imbalance between oestrogen and progesterone but it is important to check it out.

I am surprised that your prescrption is still for alternate nights vaginal progesterone as you are no quite a high dose of oedstorgen if you are absorbing it well, but sometimes too much prog can cause spotting. Only a scan will determine what's what.

Have you ever taken it cyclically ( the prog) so that you woukld get a predictable bleed?

Do let us know how you get on and hopefully all will be well. If your scan shows a thickened lining but nothing untoward then it is likely that an increase in prog may be advised by your doc?

Hi nettie

How are you now?

Did you manage to get a fast track appointment? And did you change your utro regime?

Hi love...yes I got a fast track scan..found a 4cm fibroid that is indenting the lining so will be symptomatic..also my lining was 9mm..awaiting a gynae appt for  hystercopy and mirena.Im also going to do a cyclical routine, stopping utro tonight, as I want to shed this lining, sure Im peri memopausal.Ive been doing 2x100mgs utro for 6 days but have been taking utro in total continuous so just stopping tonight rather then going the whole 12 days, hoping will be ok?..thanks for asking😊
